What should I do if I miss a financial aid deadline?

I am applying for financial aid at a private college and have submitted all the required documentations such as my CSS Profile 2013-2014 and FAFSA 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. I have to send in my parent's 2013 tax returns to IDOC sometime in March (but like the rest of my documentation I will probably send it in as soon as it's available to send in).

Well I thought I was all set and good but just yesterday I received an email about missing financial information. I was confused and when I checked it said that the college's financial aid office did not receive my parent's 2012 tax returns. I went on their website and found out I was supposed to send them in Jan 15.

I am completely freaking out now! What should I do? Should I call or email them? As soon as I saw the email I made a copy of my parent's tax returns and have them ready for mail. Unfortunately they wouldn't get delivered until Jan 21 and will be received around Jan 23.

You are fine. You got the email because it was missing, not because you are out of the running. If you were out of the running, they would not waste their time asking you for the info. Mail gets lost all the time - they know that. And people. like parents and counselors forget to send things also. Relax, you have demonstrated good faith effort in getting the other stuff. They sent the email to help you.

Call the college and ask. In the meantime, get copies of those documents. Find out from the school exactly where to send this NOW.
