What should I do if my transcript is outdated?

I'm in a slight fix regarding my transcript that I believe requires some fixing.

Anyway, I stopped by the counseling office today to pick up a copy of my transcript and was dismayed to find that it was not fully updated. Although I had taken summer courses, my transcript did not include them either to demonstrate credits earned or grade points awarded. In addition, the test scores section, which I presumed would include my most recent scores, included neither my SAT (Subject Test) scores from May and June nor my AP scores of the former month.

I did ask the registrar in the office why the transcript was not fully up-to-date, and she states that GPA calculations and rank - my biggest concerns up to this point - are not calculated until the second semester - in my school after Christmas break. Of course, the biggest problem resulting from this procedure is that the colleges I'm applying to cut their deadlines before the second semester. Thus, any info I would put it would not reflect my true academic qualifications.

Is there anything specific you guys would recommend for my particular situation? I'm assuming I would simply submit the current GPA, rank, and credits earned as denoted on my transcript, but if there are any other options, let me know. Thanks in advance!

Could I receive some sort of response - hopefully helpful - to my question? I’d like to get this concern resolved as quickly as possible. Thanks.

Since you are a Senior, you’re correct in asking for as up to date transcript as possible. We’re in a similar situation so here is how I would advise my teen to address this:

a. First, find out if the person in charge of high school Transcripts is different from the school’s Registrar. If so, go to the Transcript person, review your current transcript for accuracy, and then and ask how your summer grade can be added. The two office heads are not the same person in our high school, for example.

b. If unsuccessful, turn to your Guidance Department Head. That individual should have an established working relationship with the Transcript Office head for your high school, given the chronic changes and volume of changes involving Seniors as well as ED/EA, and RD’s. Ask for help getting your summer course added to your junior year (it’s all done by computerized programs after it’s added to your account). You’d have to ask about the impact on rank-I don’t know that specifically.

c. Send in your test scores from College Board and ACT yourself. Don’t worry they are not on your transcript, since you’re required to send them in anyway.

d. AP scores are allowed to be self reported on the common app, with many colleges, once accepted, then requesting formal confirmation from high school.

Junior year GPA’s, which include summer course credits and grades, are generally done upon receipt of the formal school transcript where you took the course. I am assuming you requested this transcript, unless its at your high school. Junior year GPA (and presumably its influence on rank) doesn’t wait until December of Senior Year in most schools, when first semester senior grades are added in a rush to get to applicants’ colleges.

Advocate. There must be a solution to be had. Good luck to you and others.
