Please help!!! GPA question. Thank you in advance!

Since my applications are due January 1, and I just finished my first semester, should I change the GPA on my common application to what it is at the end of this semester or leave it to what it was at the end of 11th grade? My GPA drastically changed because of AP weight.

Thank you!

bump… haha

bump … really need to know! thanks

Is your old transcript already uploaded? If so, then use your old gpa when your counselor uploads the mid year report colleges will see your new gpa.

I had this same question but I asked my counselor. He said to use the updated GPA because because the school will get the midyear report before they read the application.

okay so in that case how do I figure out my updated GPA? can I just calculate it on my own or do I need an official number from my counselor?

thanks for the help guys

I can see my transcript online. I would advise that you to get an official number rather than trust your own calculations

i calculated my gpa the first time and it matched the transcript gpa, so is it okay if it update the one i have now with my own calculations? im going to subtract .02 as a cautionary measure. is it okay if the gpa on my common app is slightly lower than what is on my transcript?

I don’t advise you to subtract .02. The admissions officers will be wondering why your GPA and the transcript’s GPA don’t match up and that will hurt you. If you can, you should call your school and ask what your GPA is for the semester. However, if you are SURE your calculations are correct and will match your mid year report, then go ahead and use it.

If you can get the official number from your school, use it. If not, use the old one. They will get the midyear report and see your updated number soon enough. The colleges pretty much all use unweighted GPA anyway, so your AP bump to your weighted GPA will not make any difference to them.

okay so if my current GPA is 4.36, and after this semester it’s 4.55 … it wont make a difference? if not, I won’t take the risk and I’ll just use my old GPA.

thank you so much for the help by the way!

Same question as kilment – if the new gpa with 1st semester grades can be calculated, is it better to use it, or submit the end-junior year GPA and wait for schools to see the new gpa when they receive the mid-year report?
