What should I do? UT vs. TAMU

We can all agree Fisher is just stupid and a bit racist if you look at it from a certain angle.

Now, does UT do any such rolling admission?

Not sure why “that” characterization is offensive in any way or form. Just as I did not understand the earlier comment about “the bashing” of TAMU, I have to admit to not understand that particular comment.

I am glad to explain my posts further.

Xiggi, it appeared as though you were saying that the kids I know that narrowly missed the percentage cut off were probably of the ilk of Fisher. And as for the bashing, I was mainly referring to the initial reaction of OP’s mom calling it a “bad public school”, which is fairly ridiculous.

Hmmm, not sure about UT and rolling admissions.

According to the UT Common Data Set item C16:

Rolling bases beginning in the Fall for the following year’s Fall semester admission. All decisions communicated no later than 03/01.

I know of students from our HS that received word early while others were much later.

An authentic Manziel used tissue would probably be worth more than anything David Ash signs :)

^^ My previous post should “basis” not bases. That’s what I get for typing while watching baseball!

Kldat, if I had to guess, I’d say auto admits heard pretty quick, and most others waited.

So my GPA went down :frowning: 3.44…looks like I’m screwed

Sorry about your gpa, but an auto-admit is an auto-admit…and HARDLY screwed.

You’ll be fine.

Yeah but that pretty much seals my fate for UT :frowning:
I guess I’ll do CAP

What’s wrong with going to Texas A&M, or has your mother’s opposition to going there made it too expensive to attend compared to UT CAP or whatever?

A&M is way better than CAP. CAP is only guaranteed admittance to the Arts/Sciences college of UT.

Also you have to spend two years at a UT Satellite campus.

No, not that. I toured it and honestly it was everything I didn’t want. I want a fast paced, independent lifestyle with cutthroat competitiveness. It’s just who I am I guess. And CAP is only one year at UTSA, than I could do a five year MS CS program.

Are you sure you can get into CS after CAPping?

kdswish, I’m a bit confused about your mention of your GPA. Are you still an auto admit at TAMU? Did you not get your GPA and rank for the end of Junior year until today? For Texas schools your rank is more important than your GPA.

As a parent of a kid who is in engineering at TAMU; had had UT logoed everything until he went to TAMU and decided to go to TAMU engineering over UT’s program; I agree as others have said it is all about the campus visit. My S felt that the excellence of the programs was close enough and he liked the TAMU vibe better. We are fairly liberal and I never expected the he nor I would feel as good about TAMU as we did until we visited. It sounds like you are more of a city person and you might prefer UT if you get that choice but you and your mom should do a campus visit and not make a decision based on hype. I’m not a football fan but from what I hear from my S and other Aggies the football games are a blast.

As for your mom looking down on TAMU; you can show her the engineering rankings in comparison to other nationally known schools because TAMU’s engineering rankings are excellent. Texas students who want to do engineering are so fortunate to have such strong choices in their state schools.

If you don’t think you will be happy at TAMU that is another thing but if you think you can love TAMU perhaps your mom will come around.

I’m still an auto admit and my rank is now top 14%. Just bummed out lol

Did you apply already so you can get an engineering spot?

Yessir. To both schools

In other words, the students at A and M are too nice?

Are you now in an environment with cutthroat competition, etc, that you say you want?
