<p>I'm from Malaysia. I took my SAT in October and it turned out badly. I only get 1410 for the total score.
Last week I found that U of Washington has high acceptance rate although it ranked pretty good. I'm considering to apply that school but I was wondering should I send it my low SAT score?? Will it affect my admission chance?? Because it is unnecessary for international student to send in their SAT result.
Besides how U of W choose their students??? I'm really interested in studying there!!!</p>

<p>Your SAT score is below the 25th percentile for the University of Washington (Seattle campus), so I wouldn’t send it. It can only hurt you.</p>

<p>If you can pay fully, don’t send your SAT score and your odds are good as long as your grades and TOEFL match the mid range for the universit. At worst you’ll be asked to spend a year at Bothell, but I doubt it.
However, if you can’t pay $40,000, then… well, it’s pointless to apply, since there’s no financial aid.</p>

<p>Bothell is a branch campus where international students who are conditionally admitted to UWA spend a year before “transferring”. They take English classes along with “regular” first year classes and if they get to the required level (which they do fairly easily) they move to UWA proper.</p>

<p>Anyway, sending SAT scores to UW is optional. However, that will not guarantee your admission because it is still considered moderately selective. I think it’s better if you consider applying to some safety schools like Penn State(if you’re doing engineering) or schools with a higher than 75% acceptance rate. However, don’t just apply to safety schools, go for schools which are more selective as well because well, US college acceptances tend to depend on luck.</p>

<p>Hm, Penn State is more selective than UWA, especially for engineering. A 1410 wouldn’t even qualify someone for branch campus, I think - perhaps if full pay but I doubt it.
Beside UWA, look at UOregon, Western Washington U, and SOU, plus U Puget Sound, U Seattle, UPortland, Pacific Lutheran.</p>
<p>You should also look at University of Central Florida and University of South Florida. I heard they are really good public universities, specially USF.</p>
<p>About Penn State being more selective, I’m not entirely sure how it is actually but I do know for sure that there are tons of Malaysians there (even those with their SAT score on the lower end)</p>
<p>Penn State is one of the schools that is “numerical”, that is, it has a chart (nicknamed the bubble chart) and if you factor 2/3 GPA and 1/3 SAT score, you have an idea whether you’d get Rejected, Branch Campus or University Park. Other elements (if you’re full-pay OOS or international, for instance, or if you have a “special talent”, especially of the athletic kind) factor in if you’re borderline between a yellow and a blue or black bubble. Other factors may include diversity or quality of the essay or ECs. But the main factors are SAT and GPA.
The only way someone with a 1400 SAT gets to University Park is if they have more than a 4.0. Being full-pay would probably help if the person has a 3.9 but I don’t really see it otherwise :). However, that person could still get as low as a 3.6 and get a branch campus for a 2+2 system.</p>

I plan to major in bioengineering or chemical engineering and I really like urban life.
So I’m applying NYU-Poly but I’m afraid of the merger between NYU and NYU-poly makes NYU-poly hard to get in… 
And yeah, one of my friends asked me to apply Penn but im like top 30% in my high school… so… haha…
Anyway, I did retake my SAT but I don’t think that I improved alot…Last year, study in US is not in my plan. Just that somehow my parents gt rich and want me to study in a top 100 school in US next year… I was gonna study in Taiwan uni because of I have strong Chinese language skills… Dang it parents… :
So now Im waiting for the sat result. ( please pray for me ) I don’t really want to retake toefl…I’m afraid that it won’t improve much…

<p>Apply to Penn State - being international full pay and top 30% in your high school class, you may get offered a branch campus, then you can finish your degree from University Park.
Do the same for Pitt (U Pittsburgh), UOregon, U Minnesota, UC Merced or UC Riverside, etc.
Would your parents be okay if you attended a top 100 LAC?</p>

<p>An alternative is to do a “bridge” program, if your parents can pay. It means you start out with half ESL half regular college classes, then you proceed to the regular program with 100% regular classes.

If you need financial aid, you need to apply for it, but it reduces your odds considerably and many universities simply don’t offer it.</p>

<p>Can you give us a breakdown of your scores? Have you taken the SAT subjects (like Math2 etc)? How much can your family contribute (pay for a less-expensive public, a more expensive public or a private, pay up to $10,00…?)</p>
