What should I do?

I applied to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and got accepted about a month ago. The problem is that when I was applying I was afraid I was going to get rejected, so I applied to their Agriculture, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences school and selected my major as Consumer Economics and Finance because this seemed to me like the most "unfarmerish" major they offered, and I really have no interest in agriculture I just wanted to get into the school. Now when I look back on it, I realize like an idiot that I could have gotten into their Literature, Arts, and Science school quite easily because many of my friends did who had lesser scores than I did. So my question is, especially for anyone who goes or knows anything about U of I, is it possible to transfer into the Literature, Arts, and Science school from the Agriculture one, or did I just do a stupid mistake and screw myself over like I think I did?

If I did, at least I got accepted into Wisconsin-Madison..........that's 31 grand a year though....

Any insight would be appreciated

bump for y'all

Call or write the school, explain that you've had second thoughts about your major, and ask if it matters. My guess is that you're not the first student who changed their mind after sending in an application. Besides, what's the worst thing that could happen? You are already enrolled in a program that you aren't interested in. What are they going to do, make you study 17th century Lithuanian limericks?

I did the same exact thing man, this was last year for me at Illinois

I had a 3.72 GPA, 26 ACT, and wanted to get into the Business School, since I'm interested in Marketing.

So, knowing that you gotta have like at least a 29-30 ACT to get into business, I applied under Agriculture, Consumer, Environmental Sciences b/c just like you applied under Cons. Economics and Finance, so did I, because it was the closest thing to a business major that does allow for jobs in marketing, bank institutions, finance, etc...

Well, you know, I applied, I got into the College of ACES, also applied to schools like DePaul, Loyola, and UIC. Got into all of those too.

So then I'm thinkin, well, which is the best situation for me. I chose Illinois b/c Loyola's business program is weak, DePaul costs a lot for it being a private institution, and UIC, well I could've chosen, but I felt more comfortable with Illinois.

Wisconsin might be a bit of a better school than Illinois, but again, the cost is certainly up there, Illinois costs about 18,000 from last year for in-staters.

If you are concerned about Business, you can't transfer till your Junior year, but you're so busy taking Gen. Ed's and College of ACES related courses(required classes) that it shouldn't be a big deal.

I may transfer to College of Business, I may not, we'll see.

It's not the worst situation. If there's 500-600 other kids goin into the College of ACES each year, they can't all be in a bad situation.

And if you jus applied there for no reason and don't intend to have a business related career(which is the whole idea of Consumer Econ. and Finance), well then you really screwed up b/c LAS(Liberal Arts and Sciences) is also not too hard to get into if you have decent ACT and good GPA.

Thanks for the help, so you can take the required business courses with the corresponding GPA while in the ACES school and ultimately get into the business school if you're credentials are right? What if I wanted to transfer from the ACES to LAS school?

ACES to LAS is easier b/c I think you can do so after Freshman year. I'm not 100% positive, but I think you can.

Basically with the Cons. Econ and Finance major you're in, you will have to take ACE 100(Economics: mix of Micro and Macro) and ACE 161(Computer class, basically I think it's just working with Spreadsheets and Microsoft Office programs, I'm takin it this semester), or maybe Econ 103(Macroeconomics).

Otherwise, you're just taking Gen. Ed's and your English classes and your Math classes.

Yea, I believe as long as you got the right credentials, you should be good if you want to go to Business.

Want to get into business from ACEs? DON'T TAKE ACE 100 or ACE 161! You need Econ 102 and CS 105 to switch easily and even if you stay in ACEs those classes will count as their ACE counterparts.

I think you definitely can do an internal transfer after a certain period of time. Just pick the right courses and sustain a GPA of 3.7-4.0.
