What things are issued on I-Day?

USNavalA, thanks for the info. Since you appear to be a female, I thought maybe you could tell me if they will take away bras on I-Day too? Does USNA supply these? My daughter just invested a little over $200 on the suggested 6 white sports bras and 6 white regular bras. It wouldn't matter if they took away a few pairs of the suggested granny panties or crew socks, but should I consider sending the bras after I-Day instead?

The sports bras they give you are great but a few extra are always nice. She will almost always be running somewhere and regular bras are not the greatest over the summer. She can take them with her and wear them to the baseball games, parents weekend and during the year. As long as they are white the cadre will not confiscate them. If you plan to send them after I-day, during the summer, one thing to remember is the cadre, both male and female, open the boxes in front of the rest of the company. They are checking for cellphones, game systems, etc...but if you don't think your daughter wants some upperclass male finding her bras, then she should take them on I-day and pull them out of here bag before it goes in storage.

What about spare eyeglasses? I know that BCG's are issued and required during plebe summer. The Permit to Report packet instructions included a directive to take two pairs of glasses with your most recent prescription. Our son will be wearing one pair, but we're not quite sure what to do with the second. I would hate have it broken in storage, or lost like some of the items mentioned previously. I have read that the kids have an opportunity to get their calculators from their backpacks before they are taken away and put into storage? Is this always the case? Is there any reason our son couldn't remove his spare glasses before handing over his backpack?

I was wondering the same thing about glasses becuase I heard abouts omeone who's BCGs weren't ready or there was somethingw rong with them, so he or she had to wear the glasses they brought momentarily.

I am going by the book, verbatim, if they throw it away so be it. I am not going to guess. They tell me exactly what to bring and that is what I am going to do.

I'm bringing a toothbrush, toiletries, a watch, sneakers, cellphone/charger, ID, my paperwork, and the clothes on my back. Everything else, I'm hoping I'll either get in the mail or by the Issuing Fairies of Bancroft. =P

They're doing the Baysox this year. Not sure which date yet
Bowie Baysox

Not sure if this has been mentioned somewhere yet, but I would strongly suggest bringing a copy of your shot record with you into alumni on I-day. Though you will have had to already submit it to get in, they tend to lose a few documents here and there in the process. The last thing you want to do is to have to get a series of shots that you have already had on I-day because they can't find the record of you getting it done already..

Are we allowed to bring pictures of family & friends to hang up in our room or have our parents send them later?

Not 100% sure but I think I heard you can bring pictures and whatnot that will fit on a 2'x2' bulletin board.

Should we bring our wallets? Will we need identification?

Why would you NOT bring your wallet?

I'm bringing a junky wallet with only the bare minimums and a little cash. I figure my parents can mail/give me my wallet later when there aren't any chances of it being taken or lost.

i would reccomend having your parents send you the pictures in a care package. one less thing to worry about on i-day, and you'll be better prepared to put them up once you've unpacked your room and know how to hide things before inspections.

you can bring your wallet- you won't have much need for it, but if you feel you need it, bring it.

photos: have parents send in first care package.

flag: pack a small american flag in your wallet and put that out in your room first thing.

Bring your glasses- just in case.

Watch- leave it at home. It's not allowed, and your parents can send it to you when you earn the privilage.

Money- you will have a chance to get to the midstore at some point, so $$ is always useful. Our MId asked for quarters (we sent a roll in a carepackage)- something about vending machines (cold drinks) in the sailing center that he had occassional visits to.

Electric razors: leave them home too; they will be taken on I-Day and you may never see them again. Our Mid has a brand new one lost deep in the halls of Bancroft, and it has been 2 years now.

Underware, and other items "on the list".... honestly, consider them secondary, optional and conditional. There is no need to show up with anything besides your running shoes, toothbrush, immunization record and one small american flag. And BCP's if you are on them. You will get more than enough of everything else, and even if you should need something, it is just a care package away!
