ya they cant go through personal drawers unless there's a commissioned officer there with them. but during indoc they will take your electric shavers, so bring razors, they will also take watches and clocks so bring them just dont plan on using them until after indoc. and also one of the companies will be moving into new barracks next year so theres on more chance of not having to bring a fan. if you plan on being in band co bring a fan for sure cause they wont get the new barracks.

ok... i was talking to an allumni who told me that i really should bring a couple rows of quaters incase an upperclassman needs change....is this pracitce still in use...and should i bring the change....

thanks,

KP10

no upperclassmen dont ask for money anymore, but you are going to need a dollar in quarters for your plebe gear just so you can say you have it, but theres no real need for them otherwise

what does plebe gear exactly consist of besides the bearing book and the dollar of quarters?

a knife, pen, and a few other things that are given to you when you get here, it gets annoying to carry around, but i pretty much stopped carrying it a couple weeks before acceptance day

I've been had! You mean to tell me that you guys didn't even need the quarters? Wonder what my kid was doing with them? Poker change? Dang it! I could have saved atleast 30 bucks in quarters for the car wash!

Advice on the fans. You don't have to go with a huge window box type fan if you don't want to. They make these really cool little 12" turbo fans and it will fit into your duffle fairly well. Just a thought to lighten the load & free up a hand.

Keep in mind that your parent's might want to send you that first box so maybe ask them to send the electric shaver, ect. so you don't have to mess with much. I sent the shaver, lighters, rags, candy, & more quarters, heh, in that first box. He'd bought duct tape at the ship's store during Indoc (probably with all the quarters he had).

you can use the quarters on the bus when u go to the train station, but you dont need them until after parents weekend since you arent aloud to leave before that, so theres really no point of having them until you parents come up cause they can just give you some quarters then

Regarding the fans... What is called "hot" in Long Island is different from what is hot in Texas, Arizona, or Florida. Although it can get a bit stuffy and humid without airflow! This doesn't seem to last for very long and otherwise the summer days are quite pleasant to most Southerners. The ships store had stacks of box fans on display each time we visited, and the P/Cs are allowed to purchase one if they choose to. That would be a lot easier than packing and carrying one from home. Most Southern kids are less prepared for the Long Island winters. (If you get A split, you only have 2 winters on campus)

yep washington kids are going to die...

The fundamental problem at Kings Point is that it is on a point, surrounded by water - thus the humidity, coupled with either the heat or the cold, can be brutal - think heat index and wind chill. I think even the kids from FL find it hot...just keep drinking water as everyone sweats profusely (the gals "glisten") a lot...
Seems to me that plebes aren't allowed to buy soda from the various machines on campus with all those quarters until they are recognized - true?

true, technically

not allowed to do much of anything, but as long as you dont get caught, u can do anything u want

thats true....and if you are caught, make sure you are willing to pay the price

"Most Southern kids are less prepared for the Long Island winters", lol... imagine we coming from Panama where the average temperatures goes from aprox. 74 to 85 all year long!!!
We are used to the temperature we r going to find during indoc... but winter, its going to be hard :(

So. The SC kids aren't going to be the only ones to sleep in their watch caps starting in October. (Have photos so I know it will happen) Here's some hints for you: First you start with a ball of snow. Remember to put on gloves. Put it on the ground and roll it until you can't roll it any more. Thats the base for your snowman. Then repeat for a medium sized ball for the middle and stack in on top of the large one. Always watch your back so you can duck & cover for incoming from NY & CT Plebes who think its funny you're cold. Proceed to roll a third smaller ball for the head. Stack that on top. Find sticks for his arms & a couple of cool rocks for his eyes. Maybe you can snatch a carrot from the salad bar at Delano for his nose. Be sneaky about it though. You don't want the yankees to figure out what you're up to cause they'll be watching.

Remember this: Snow is not fun when it gets shoved down your pants. Run if you anticipate this happening.

Ha ha...you can take the girl out of Ohio, but... :D

Thats "back home in Indiana" actually. LOL And yes, its race day here at this house complete with checkered flag. Got milk? :)

can I have a camara with me??... cuz I'm travelling with a couple of candidates, and will be a wonderful experience to remember...

Bring your camera with you, but it will probably be packed away during the 2 week indoc period. Plenty of pix are taken of you, you will be too busy to take pix. If you haven't reviewed the pix of the class of 2008 (there was some problem with 2009), go to http://www.usmma.edu/life/indoc/2008/default.asp to get a good feel for Indoc in July.

thnxs... I dont have any problem with the cam been taken away from me... I just want the pics in the airport here... when we arrive there... we will be there for 2 days before we report, so I will have lots of pics to take before reporting
