do you suggest singing up for technical courses at CalSO, like math or chemistry? Im asking because I dont know if they fill up quickly or not.

I also heard reading & composition courses fill up real quickly.

R&C courses do fill up quickly. I would try to get those out of the way fast. You can probably get into math or chem as long as you're somewhat flexible w/ discussion/lab times. Signing up for chem in Phase I would be a good idea unless you're trying to get into another popular course.

Chem 1a has 1500 spots! Would it really be smart to sign up for it Phase I?

I plan on doing Rhetoric 10, Physics 7A, and a Freshmen Seminar Phase I.

Any EDD (early drop deadline) classes should take priority. The Physics 7 series being 1 of them.

Chem lectures always have a lot of slots but it's those lab sections that you have to worry about. How flexible are you with a 3-4 hour lab section in your schedule?

if you get into lecture but can't get into labs or discussions, then what happens?

good question, I would also like to know.

You get waitlisted for all of it (Lec, lab, dis).

oh okay..

if you're waitlisted, what's the chance of getting in? (say there's 5 on the waitlist)

It depends on the situation. Last fall, for Chem 1A, more lab sections (for the same timeslot) opened up to accomodate the amount of students signed up for that time who were not flexible enough for any other lab section times.

if your 5 on the waitlist for chem 1a I don't know if you would get in because the slots in lab are usually set at a cap. The only way I think you might get in would be if 1) opened new sections but would be astretch since 1500 spots or 2) 5 people dropped the class in your particular lab section. But as far a picking chem and math over R&C courses = I think this is a wise idea because you can take R&C classes when ever you want while you want to get as many tech classes out of the way as possible
