Hi there,
so i got a D in Math20A this quarter, and the only reason i got that D was because i studied my ass off for the final, otherwise i'd have a solid F. And i heard from a friend that if i continue with the 20 series i can appeal the grade i got in 20A if i get better than a B in 20B. I was wondering if anyone knows if that's true or if i would have to just retake the class.

i don't think they will allow you to continue the series with 20B if you didn't pass 20A, not to mention how you won't be able to do integrations if you can't do differentiation well

im still enrolled for 20b on webreg, or is it something i have to change personally?

I'm pretty sure you are going to have to change back into 20A because you failed it. I'm not sure about appealing. The grade will still stay on your record. Once you retake it, the grade you originally got will be averaged in with your retake grade.

just retake 20A. you will be better off.

You'll be dropped from 20B anyway after the registrar starts auditing

Retake 20A, make sure you study everything again, get an A, ???, profit

Isn't D a passing grade?

for major work, only a c- and above are considered 'passing'

Proton: Thanks. I didn't know.

no problem

You can't take Math 20B without passing Math 20A with a C- or better

When you retake Math 20A, and if you get a B or something, the D will show up on your transcript, but only the B will be averaged into your GPA (you can do this for up to 16 units. after you've retaken 16 units of classes, then your old AND new grades will be averaged into your GPA)

If you want to appeal your Math 20A grade, you have to do it within one quarter of taking the class. So if you haven't appealed your grade by the end of 10th week of Winter quarter, there's going to be no chance for you to have your grade changed, regardless of how good your reason is. And yes, you better have a pretty darn good reason (and I'm nearly 100% certain that you cannot appeal your 20A grade if you get a B or better in 20B... that would just be ridiculous)

you can only replace around 4 or 5 grades. afterwards if you retake a class, the D with the B will be factored into your gpa.

it's protonnnnnnnnnnnn

you may only "replace" 16 units. Those 16 units of failing grades will not be factored into the gpa but they will always remain on the transcript
