In hindsight, I can’t find anything about Oberlin late auditions. I was recalling two, and those would seem to be both Peabody and Mannes. Sorry if I confused anyone.

And in looking through the '10 auditions thread, I see the schools where she auditioned. A tough list for an extremely competitive instrument.

glassharmonica, if your D does decide to take a gap year, feel free to pm me. I took one (i studied violin all year with Shirley Givens in NYC), and I would be happy to tell you about my experiences. Don’t give up hope yet; the audition process is tough, but your D sounds very talented, and may have some great opportunities coming her way!

SpiritManager, Thanks for being perky-- I appreciate perky! I didn’t mention the other school because it is an extremely small program and I don’t want to be transparent. I’m concerned about the location and larger university environment in the Other School being a problematic fit, just in terms of personality and location.

Agreed, IU is a great school; the problem there is that she doesn’t have a studio assignment at IU. We were told at the info session that students have to be proactive and secure their own teacher. She is on the wait list for a particular teacher, and feels it would be wrong to contact other teachers there because he told her that he would accept her if someone drops out of his studio. But a miss is as good as a mile, as they say. We’re also waiting to hear from them about scholarship-- so far we’ve only received letters about loans from the FA office.

@violadad, thanks so much for your advice (especially about considering the level of “no”, since I tend to take people’s responses at face value.) I don’t know how to get in touch with my daughter’s guidance counselor, or anyone at the school, until April 5, so we will be at the mercy of the admin office. If you would be willing to pull together those links I would be grateful; I’m not great at using the search feature here. Thanks!
