What to do over the summer

I am a freshman majoring in civil engineering and I really don't know what to do over this summer. The best case scenario would be to get an internship but I feel that it may be difficult considering my lack of experience and the current job market. If anything else I will probably end up taking some humanities courses at community college back home. Is there anything that you guys would recommend I do over the summer because I really do not want to waste it.

internship, summer courses at berkeley (technical courses or w/e so you have more room later to pursue another major or take grad courses)

Paid internships are scarce because of the economy but you’d be surprised how many unpaid internships are out there. If money is not an issue, check with the Career Center for unpaid internships or just start calling engineering firms to ask whether unpaid internships are available.
