Hi, I am a current junior who is interested in English/Humanities as well as Foreign Relations. What opportunities for the summer would be the most beneficial for my college application and be the best use of my time? I get the sense that summer “camps” are a bit of a scam, and colleges look more for hands on experiences (internships, jobs, etc.). Is this the general consensus among the college confidential community? If so, anybody have any recommendations of places or opportunities that relate to English/Humanities or Foreign Relations which I can take a look at (the best idea I can think of is working at my local paper)? If not, any suggestions of summer programs that are genuinely impressive and not just machines made to generate money for whatever prestigious organization that’s running it?
Any summer job will do. You don’t have to find one specifically related to what you think you’d like to study in college.
I went to Emerson’s pre-college and it was really nice. It was essentially a trial run for college (with some restrictions bc we’re minors). You have classes and live in Boston. Also a good way to make friends. They have a ton of different options for classes but you’d probably be interested in the Politics, Advocacy, and Leadership program.
