What to do with universities I don't want to attend?

Well, I got into one of my top choices (Thank God!) and most of my safeties/schools i picked for the lifestyle. My financial situation is 95% sorted and I've sent in the deposit, applied for accommodation etc.

But what do I do for all my other universities? i'm getting emails about upcoming deposit deadlines and I have some universities where my application is half complete. Do I just ignore all of them? Send the deposit to one in case my financial situation changes or I have a change of heart?

You do not deposit at two colleges. Especially not “in case [you] have a change of heart.” It’s time to make a decision and stick with it, Bob.

Now that you’ve decided where you’re going, and paid the deposit, you notify the other colleges and universities that you won’t be attending. You can do this by:

1) sending a letter thanking them for the offer of admission, but informing them that you’ll be attending First Choice University; or

2) sending them an email saying the exact same thing; or

3) sending back the reply cards that were surely tucked into those big, fat envelopes they all send you a month ago.

Somewhere in the big envelopes should be instructions on how to decline an offer of admission.

What if I decide not to reply to anything?

If you don’t reply they’ll just assume that you’re not going. But there will also be people on the waitlist that have to wait even longer to hear back because your spot hasn opened up so it’s nice to those people to respond if you’re sure

Don’t be that guy that doesn’t bother to reply one way or the other. You were surely humble during the admissions process, don’t stop doing so after

Say goodbye and appreciate their interest. Be friendly and say thank you but no thank you.
