What to do

1 recommendation: Meet as many people as possible.

You can check out the clubs this summer on their online page, then commit to joining at least one.

I highly recommend a club sport, even if you've never played it before. You get credit, too. You can even contact the club president now and visit while a senior.

You can attend the frat or sorority rush and not join. (Son's roommate joined, but he never intended to - you probably don't want to advertise that. Not his scene, but met plenty of fun people that they dine/hang out with.)

Hang out at the pool or rec center.

Attend the dorm events.

Attend a study group, ask to study with a person in your class.

I saw my son this weekend. He's only been home twice. He was the happiest I've ever seen him. He said he could never have imagined how much fun this was all going to be.

Be bold...introduce yourself at every opportunity.

The on-campus bank, located in the student union, is a Wells Fargo. Plan to open an account while you’re at SOAR because waiting until the first week a school will mean big lines. FYI: You can’t open a WF Student account online.

The Passport bus is free when you show your CSULB id. It’s stressful to ride the thing at night your first time, so take a couple of day trips to get familiar with the routes/bus numbers. There’s also a mobile app for smart phones that lets you see when the next bus is coming.

Plan to rent as many of your books as possible from chegg.com. You can get the ISBN number from your course list and then order them online. They’ll be shipped directly to the CSULB bookstore for easy pick-up. Rent them no earlier than 3 or 4 days before the term starts, so that the rental period gives you enough time to return them. If there’s a book change you can exchange for free. Be sure to return them by the due date or you’ll be stuck with the full purchase price. It’s effortless to return them through the bookstore, so don’t bring them home with you on the winter break.

Thanks for the information! I’m going to attend CSULB in the fall, so it’s nice to know insider information about the school.
