Hello everybody,

I am taking the October test. What do you recommend to eat during the breaks in the test to maximize focus and minimize fatigue?

I am currently planing on bringing grapes, granola bars and chocolate-covered coffee beensfor energy toward the end of the test. Does this seem smart? What has worked for you? I often become fatigued as the test progresses if I do not eat correctly during the breaks. I have heard that grapes can help focus.

Also, what do you recommend to eat the morning of the test? Should I just eat what I usually do?

Thanks a lot for any tips! :)

I’m going cashews all the way, mang. Decent mix of oils/fats/carbs for short + long term energy.

Cashews for breakfast

Cashews for breaks

Cashews for lunch afterwards, because cashews.

Also they don’t have a strong taste so they won’t cause ass-breath, and they’re somewhat soft so they won’t get uncomfortably stuck between my teeth.

Eat something that you are comfortable with.
I am going to take chocolate bars for the breaks because I am comfortable with eating chocolate. And Nuts! Nuts are good.
For breakfast, same thing. Don’t eat heavy. Different people have different foods that cause them discomfort. You want to stay away from them. I suggest stick with something you already eat regularly, and that doesn’t cause you discomfort.
For concentration improvement:
I don’t know about grapes, but if you are a caffeine person… take some coffee with breakfast. But don’t over-consume caffeine because it can make you jittery and you don’t want that!
Sweet fruits and berries are good options as well.

But whatever you do, don’t skip breakfast. And don’t overeat. You should be fine.

Last time I took the SAT I brought some chocolate bars. The sad fact is that 5mins is really short so I kinda wolfed it down. Was too sweet. Decided not to bring food this time in case something like that happened again. I will only bring some drinks this time(orange juice).

For breakfast, I usually have a banana since my stomach’s pretty sensitive to food first thing in the morning–especially if I’m nervous.

For snacks, I’m going with almonds. They’re delicious and keep you satiated for SUCH a long time. Convenient to eat, too.
