Hi, my D is meeting a coach for the first time during a visit, but does not know what to wear. She trying to create positive interest and add to coach's first impression. An easy answer, sure, but it could be important. Wear sweats/practice stuff and be able to give coach a quick show and tell? Wear jeans and nice shirt and be casual/informal? Wear neat pants and shirt showing some coach respect and self respect? Or, wear a skirt and a blouse being professional and respectful? Thanks!

She’s taking an unofficial visit to Harvard over her spring break and is going to meet with a coach? It’s a very casual conversation that will probably include a bit of walking around the facilities. She won’t be asked (or allowed) to demonstrate her athletic prowess - nice, comfortable, casual attire is fine.
You’ll get more info if you post this question in the athletic recruit forum

As Varska explains, she cannot demonstrate any of her athletics to the coach due to NCAA rules, but she certainly can wear a shortish skirt and top to show off her athleticism and muscle tone. The coach will not care how formal she is, as he or she will most likely be in sweats.

A friend and her daughter met with coach at H for unofficial last summer. Her Mom advised her to wear something kind of casual conservative and “preppie”. Daughter refused saying, it was casual and they don’t care. She wore shorts, flip flops and camisole top. Mom told me they looked her up and down (somewhat judgmentally) and Mom felt it was the reason she never heard anything back from them as the girl was actively recruited at other Ivies. Who knows what the reason truly was, but I (and my S) will err on the side of cautious conservative when we do that trip this summer.

The shorts, flipflops and camisole you describe are definitely a no-no for the Ivies. OK for California maybe, but for the OP meeting her coach, a decent skirt and top (at least short sleeved, if not 3/4 lentgth sleeve), can still show off her athletic frame without being sleazy.

If she is meeting with the adcom, then of course, go for a more business-casual style.
