What waitlists are active? Who has closed their waitlists?

After a few kids were accepted from tOSU wait list some are now getting rejected along with a note that the school is at capacity (from the thread). My S19 is still on the wait list and has heard nothing. I’m not sure what it all means.

@STEM2017 , sometimes certain “buckets” are filled. It could be the particular school or major, it could be the gender. If your S has not been told it’s over, his bucket may still be under evaluation.

son just got an e-mail from Carleton saying they probably won’t be taking anyone from the waitlist.

Harvard anticipates taking a small number from the waitlist: https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2019/5/10/class-of-2023-yield/

Stanford is active.

For the Harvard waitlist - they stated that their yield this year was 83% and that they accepted 1950 people. With their usual class size target of 1660, this would mean that 1618 spots are taken. So unless they have higher than anticipated melt that means they’ve got maybe 20 people coming off waitlist. (math and figures taken from a reddit post so it could be bogus)

^^Wouldn’t Harvard need 42 more vs 20 more to get to 1660?

^^And assuming an 83% yield on the waitlist, they would need to pull 50 applicants.

^^ WL don’t work that way. They will ask as many as they need and give them a short time to respond. If there are “nos”, they’ll extend new offers.

This is one of the reasons that schools confirm interest in staying on WL and one of the reasons they often ask for an answer within 48-36 hours. This is all about being at capacity, not over it.

Just heard from a friend that Carleton is overenrolled and will not be pulling from waitlist.

So, updating for the ‘not going to waitlist’

Brandeis
Carleton
George Washington
Grinnell - international students
Haverford
JHU
Virginia Tech
Skidmore
UVA
Wake Forest University (for now)

Highly unlikely to open

Dartmouth

At this point so many waitlists are open that it seems like overkill to list them all, but if someone else wants to clean that up and post it please be my guest.

Was USC on the list already? Classmate of d19 got an offer off the waitlist today.

USC doesn’t have a waitlist @sj2727 It has admission appeals

Ok…l guess D got the background wrong then (maybe unsurprisingly given there have been a rash of waitlist admits in her class the last week or so)

Per official Twitter account from UVA admissions from 2 days ago-arts and sciences and engineering wait lists are closed. Nursing, kinesiology, and architecture waitlists are still open, unless something has just changed on that .

Anyone heard from Swarthmore?

Does anyone have updates on Denison?

Mount Holyoke WL thread includes an email sent by admissions indicating that the WL was expected to close this week (maybe next week? Commentary on the timeline wasn’t entirely clear).

Boston College admissions teams told people they would perhaps have news this week. Today they said next week.

But In all cases the overriding theme was at this point it looks unlikely any will be used.

That can change of course. But it’s the latest intel. But zero is tough for those waiting. 16 two years ago and 75 last year. I was thinking 50 spots which would be great with such a large list still actively waiting. Not sure if transfers is an indication of anything correlated to Wl. But 1580 transfer apps resulted in 75 admissions. 4.7%. Maybe overenrolled or less sophomore melt leading to more conservative admissions. Just a guess.

Emory offered spot to my daughter Last Wednesday.
