UCONN accepted 2 the students off the waitlist according to the class of 2023 CC thread.
@redpanda01 for GW did it give any numbers, or just that they were not using their wait list. This will be 2 years in a row that they dont go to wait list.
BU (engineering) is active as of yesterday (5/2).
NYU admissions indicate waitlist movement should start next week.
Interesting American’s WL is active, I believe it’s the first time in at least a few years.

Notre Dame is active.
William and Mary is active.
BC threads and reddit are saying maybe no Wl. But they aren’t looking until Monday or Tuesday so a few more days to wait. Hopefully it moves a bit for the students waiting.
Vandy seems to be active.
One more thing that is interesting while looking at some of the waitlist threads…it seems a fairly significant proportion of the waitlist offers, whether before May 1 or after, have come with financial aid, sometimes substantial, whether merit or need based. Seems atypical, as full pay students have historically had an advantage when many schools go to the waitlist.
Schools that meet need usually try to meet it for everyone. I know a few schools that are quite explicit about not meeting need for students off the waitlist, but I think it is more common for meets need schools to still meet need.
Of course. What I was saying is that it seems schools are taking applicants off the waitlist that applied for financial aid in the first place, whereas historically many schools pull only full pays from the waitlist
@Mwfan1921 - I think there’s a not unsubstantial number of schools that use waitlist for yield protection, especially with regard to high-stats, unhooked kids. Case Western and Vanderbilt are two that rely heavily on the waitlist. They wait until the dust settles, I guess, and then see who is still available and interested.
Dickinson College
Maybe @trixy34. I don’t think of CWRU and Vandy as yield protectors in RD, like Lehigh and Tufts. If Vandy wants a student that they think is a strong candidate for higher ranked schools, they admit that student with big merit in hopes of getting that student to attend.
Why risk losing these students by putting them on the waitlist? As we know, many students offered a waitlist spot don’t accept it.

@Mwfan1921 - I don’t know, but Vandy takes about 10% of every class from the waitlist. Maybe it’s because they absolutely can’t take the chance of over-enrollment, but yield protection at least seems like a happy result. CWRU definitely uses the waitlist for yield protection. Why else do they almost immediately follow up with merit offers for the wait-listed students?
^^One possibility is that admissions has only so much merit money to play with. The money that is declined by May 1 can be "recycled " to WL offers. But they can’t run the risk of having more merit $ accepted than they have.
Merit $ are managed by admissions, not the FA office.
I remain fascinated with the waitlist process. My son has moved on. Even if contacted by a school where he was waitlisted, I doubt he will accept. Frankly, it’s a bizarre and somewhat cruel aspect of this whole horrible modern day college process. In general, with colleges placing an increasingly high percent on the waitlist, it’s just a nicer way to reject students. It’s rare to see any school accept more than 10% from waitlist, and yet, there are still so many students holding out hope that they still might be selected. I wish them all well and am sorry that they must go through this. The colleges should be embarrassed by treating all these kids this way.
