What will the well dressed Freshman guy be wearing this fall?

They will be dressed like me. Obviously :p

I love the midwest, it seems to lack a lot of the negative stereotypes of other redions, but also some of the positive ones too. There rly aren’t any fashion stereotypes types I know of. people seem to dress all different ways, but there seems to be a trend towards kinda boring dressing

You’re getting off topic here. This isn’t about stereotypes or east coast vs west coast or midwest.

The topic asked about what the well dressed freshman kids would be wearing this fall.

OK geniuses,

1st off, wear what fits you, so measure your chest and waist size. Also different brands suit different people, some are good for taller people, whilst others are bigger for shorter people etc.

Also, the weather matters, are you up north or down south? the sunnier it is, the more shorts and t-shirts you should buy with more colors. If it’s cold, then you need plenty of black, white, grey, and soft hues.

Your personality also matters, are you into fashion? What type of music do you like? How do you want to present yourself etc etc.

IMO, belts and shoes are always better from well known brand stores.

Personally I really like Diesel, True Religion and Tommy Hilfiger.

We answered that, and then everyone called us “hardcore New England boarding school” kids :D

The style of NE boarding school kids is hardly unique or exclusive. The fact that some of the styles mentioned here represent stereotypical trends at those schools is just that–a fact. I know from personal experience. You shouldn’t take it as either a compliment or an insult.

Personally, I’m just wearing stuff I wore in High School. Not gonna go spend on new clothes when I’m short on money as it is

My clothes for college next year consist of about 9 Polos (5 RL, 2 Lacoste , 2 Brooks Brothers), Jeans, Khaki shorts and pants, miscellaneous t-shirts (Guy Harvey mostly), running shorts, two pairs of Sperry Topsiders, two casual tennis shoes, and two running shoes. I also have a couple of North Face Jackets for when it gets cold.

This repertoire might be considered preppy, but people need to get over what other people are wearing and stay true to yourself.

Preppy is a lifestyle, not some contrived trend for financially able posers.

On a side note, just don’t dress like a hipster. That is certainly a trend and an annoying one at that.

^So be yourself, but not when it’s annoying and/or trendy?

Hmmm…I’m starting to believe in my own opinions on this subject all the more.

Baelor, I’m not sure what your view was but if I remember correctly I think I agreed with you.

I’m pretty sure that you did too.

As shocking as it may seem, there are some people who get annoyed by preps. These hipsters probably are being “true to themselves,” as you preach other people to be.

Hipsters are posers, plain and simple.

They aren’t true to themselves. They are simply people who have parents with lots of money and pontificate about “how corrupt our bourgeois ideals are” while they spend a lavish amount of money just to appear as if they don’t have much money.

These conformist non-conformists think by all following the same subculture they’re unique and original. They aren’t

Those people are self contradictory hypocrites. They don’t stand for a damned thing, just their own fashion and image.

/diatribe

As Andy Warhol once said, I am a deeply superficial person.

I get the feeling I dress like a hipster.

I mostly wear:

T-shirts - generally plain, usually v-neck
Cardigans
Leather jackets - I own 2. A black moto and a brown bomber.
Jeans - raw denim
Low-top sneakers with the occasional mid, wingtips, and boots.

I like the whole prep look, but it was way too rampant at the high school I went to (to say nothing of how popular it’s going to be at my college, I suspect). Which is one of the reasons I think it’s funny that people hate hipsters because it’s trendy: prep has been a very popular trend of late.

ahhh, the old hipster vs. prep debate

Keep everything trim and slim, and you will look good in anything.

That said, it’s good to have:

For standard wear
-a few polos
-plenty of button downs
-v neck t’s when you’re feeling lazy
-slim khakis (can be hard to find, try levi 511 or h&m)
-slim dark jeans. I might even say skinny, though not legging skinny.
-v neck sweaters
-some cardigans, perhaps some chunkier ones for the winter
-slim sweatpants are actually real great
-Peacoat
-some hoodies when you’re lazier though
-a military style jacket

When you want to look a bit classier (or need to be):
-Suits/Tuxedos. Try to really find one that fits well, one that is slim.
-A navy blazer (same as above)

For shoes:
-Desert boots go great with everything
-chucks/purcells/pf flyers, what have you
-work boots (there are some good looking ones that aren’t too bulky)
-boat shoes (but try to get some with a little more flair, versus the completely omnipresent brown leather ones. try the jcrew ones or some worn canvas/suede ones; the details make a difference)
-oxfords, wingtips and such for more formal occasions

As long as everything fits you, you will look fine. No need for anything daring or outlandish. I still have some shopping to do too.

http://imgur.com/3f7xd.gif

make your own style, you dont have to put yourself into one category wear w.e you think looks good on YOU

I’m just going to wear what I usually wear. Casual clothes for everyday useage: jeans, polos, tshirts, some oxford shirts, sneakers, and shorts. And of course, I will bring dress clothing to wear if the need exists

I go to one of those “sub par state schools” and the common attire is just jeans/shorts and a t shirt, with the occasional nice polo shirt or buttoned down shirt with jeans and khakis

but unless you are going out or something you will rarely see people dressed up that nicely. Ive even rocked sweat pants on colder days and in early morning classes
