What would be the average tuition in these colleges left

When we bought my home, it cost $158,000.

It came with a THIRTY YEAR mortgage.

Are you really willing to sacrifice your financial future for 3 decades??? Even if you could get the loans-- and with a family annual income of $20,000 , it isn’t looking likely-- do you honestly think that’s the best plan for your future??

And with an annual income of $20,000 you’re going to have $15,000 worth of assets to sell every year? The math sounds really off there.

I would absolutely be advising my own children against it.

Your debt is likely going to be more than $100,000. UCLA and UCB? Plan on being a full pay student.

Read post 4 again. It gives you the places where NO AID is offered to international students.

It’s good that you are researching this now.

And please, don’t make your family sell their assets for your college costs…unless they were planning to sell those assets anyway. The amount you are asking them to sell is almost what they earn per year. I’m sorry, but your parents should preserved their assets for their own use.

There are many colleges that would be more affordable in your country.

Also, how would you plan to get the loans you think you need…and more important, where do you think you will be employed earning enough to pay them back?

I see that NYU is on your list. Probably should be removed. As an international student, you will need to show that you have enough funds to pay for all four years at that school. Do you have $280,000? It’s $70,000 a year plus to attend NYU.

Can your parents borrow money in your country with an income of only $20k/year? Would you be able to earn enough when you return home so that you can repay the loans?

Lol @Soheils I didnt saw your fast reply , I have a very bad interent connection , you are a great analyst
@bjkmom that loan mortgage thing sounds ridiculous
@thumper1 that’s actually true , I should not be so crazy to sell assets for college

As per your answers, debt is definitely not a good option Thanks alot for the opinions , I would go for the colleges that do provide finaid according to @mom2collegekids
If there is any other university you want to suggest anywhere in world , please do suggest like University of Arizona suggested by @Soheils
Thanks guys

There are only 5 colleges in the United States that provide full financial aid to international applicants and are need blind in admissions: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Amherst College (not University of Massachusetts at Amherst) and MIT. I would turn my attention to them.

I think the UA mentioned was probably University of Alabama

Yes, I was suggesting Alabama, not Arizona. Sorry.
Thank you for the compliment. Let me push my luck and say that you are probably either from the area around Delhi or avadhi. ( I. E Hindi speaker)
Did you look at the list I posted?
competitivefulltuition.yolasite.com
automaticfulltuition.yolasite.com
Big thanks to the original compiler of this list.

So…if this student gets full tuition plus $2500 a year to attend University of Alabama, how will he pay the remaining $10,000 or so in annual costs?

@thumper1 When I suggested that, he had said that he was paying $15k. Since I assumed that he was the recipient of an out side scholarship, I suggested Alabama as a particularly good deal. Also, they do have some competitive scholarships.

@Soheils you are so good in analyzing again , Iam from Chandigarh  ,
I looked at the list you mentioned and its truly helpful  although there only a few of QS mentioned colleges in that list which is sad but still I guess its worth a shot to select some safety schools from these  ,
After all Google like companies dont care about the degree I guess, I just wanted to have people around me who are geeks and a positive college atmosphere.
Costs between 10000$ to 15000$ per year would not be a problem

Well, be sure to write good essays and apply to schools that are need blind and/or meet 100% need. Forget about most of the public schools you listed (UCB, UCLA etc.)
You do know that QS is primarily a graduate school ranking?
And in my humble opinion, selling assets worth twice your family’s annual income (4*$10000) is not the best course of action. It is up to you and your family though.

Don’t forget to apply schools in your country as well…it always happens.

“although there only a few of QS mentioned colleges in that list which is sad but still I guess its worth a shot to select some safety schools from these”

Safety??? You would be lucky to get FA at any of these schools. I don’t think you are listening, REALLY listening, to these posters. You probably scored really high on SAT math. Do the math! You will not get loans here. Read other posts of international students on CC from March last year and see the decisions and FA students got. MOST Intentional students are FULL PAY. Believe us, it’s true!

@suzyQ7 With a 2300 on the SAT, the OP does not need luck to get Merit aid on any of the colleges with automatic scholarships. Those colleges can be called safeties. The OP was talking about colleges on this list :
automaticfulltuition.yolasite.com
But generally, almost all of the public schools on his list are out of question.

Per another thread, the OP has zero extracurriculars. Are you saying that these colleges have autoadmit and auto merit for high SAT scores?

@suzyQ7
According to the University of Alabama

So yes, they do have such a policy. That is why they are grouped as “automatic full tuition”.

Hum, I’m seeing something slightly different on the international applicant page, but perhaps UA is just covering itself:

http://gobama.ua.edu/international/scholarships/

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

International incoming first time freshmen who meet the December 15 scholarship priority deadline, have a qualifying score on the ACT or SAT (critical reading and math scores only) and have at least a 3.5 cumulative high school GPA will be ** eligible to compete for merit-based scholarship **

If they are autoadmit, I’m surprised every international student does not attend Bama.

@suzyQ7 Possible. He should call them and ask if the auto admit is for US citizens only

There will be atleast 2 or 3 National level EC s and some normal ECs don’t worry abt that

Well If I get accepted in a college and then I find that I can’t pay , I can quit right ,after consulting the financial head there , if I’m not selected in any scholarships like the GATech president scholarship mentioned in list.

I will be posting my dream, reach, safety schools list soon , @Soheils stay in touch bro , you are quite helpful.

@Aaryaman123 GATech presidental scholarships are for US and UK citizens only.
Sure, just mention me in your posts.
