Have you guys written the personal statement of colgate? How did you get around doing it? I have been thinking and thinking but to no avail..........
Anyone has some ideas they can share?

the better college essays tend to be 'slice of life' essays; instead of an autobiography, it could be ONE day (or hour) in the life of shreya....

^ thats an interesting idea ,
but i thought that by autobiography they want to know everything about my life.? are you sure you can do that?

I think bluebayou thought that you were talking about the general common appl personal statement..

mine is called fire and ice :)

aww that's such a cute title colgateisforlove!!

Mine is "With the Force of a Thousand Boomboxes". I'm not quite sure why, but I really like how it sounds.

what do you guys think of "The Comeback Kid"
too cliche?
i was also considering throwing them a curveball by calling it "untitled"

"How Harvard Changed My Life"...I was rejected by Harvard and, instead, enrolled at Colgate. Like "The Path Not Taken" by Frost, ... you fill in the rest.

ahh is this way too cliche: "Perspiration"

i feel like its wicked corny

did you guys give excerpts from your autobiography in your essay?

excerpts from your autobiography ??
Do we need to write a sample of what our autobiography as well? I was thinking "why" and "title" only.
I havent yet figured out my title for my autobiography. Got to stress out my brains for that.

i started my essay with a made up excerpt because i felt like it was boring, i hope it works out ok :-X

I took somewhat of a risk with my title, An overly represented majority: The uniqueness of a dime a dozen applicant

I think the whole point of this essay is to reveal our creativity--if you wanted to include an excerpt, that's great. Mine includes something similar, too.

Boston, that is an interesting risk. Do you really think your autobiography (your life!) is about applying to college?

Nah it was just an interesting thought, I'll probably end up changing it before the deadline.

I'm having trouble with this essay .. :S

I chose my title to be "Like Fish in the Water", but after I googled the phrase I was surprised to find out that Mario Vargas Llosa, a Peruvian writer, used the same title in one of his books. Damn!

I took a paper from a creative writing class about what shaped us (me) and essentially edited it down for this essay. I'm sure most of you have a paper where you had to talk about yourselves, use that as a jumping off point and don't overthink how it will sound to the adcom. Just make sure it is well written.

Finally !

I finished my essay last night. I always get inspired after midnight. Length? 250 words exactly.

Daniel,
Can you tell me What your essay was about? that is if you feel free to tell me..

I've finally thought of mine! "I'm so far behind I thought I was first"

(sort of tongue in cheek)
