If your taking 17 credits first semester, whats a good number of hours to work?

10 is totally manageable.

what about 20 hours?

10 hours? psh, weak - I work 32 hours a week with a 19 unit courseload, no problem

id say 80-120

with 17 credits

Well I'm gonna be working 20 hours a week this year...

I have a 22 hour course load and I'm aiming for 15 hours a week, 20 hours for weeks where I don't have any tests.

bump i'd also like to hear some more opinions on this.

I am working like seven or eighteen hours a week (my workstudy is only during the weekdays) and I think I am going to volunteer at the hospital on the weekends so that would be like ten more hours. So I guess that would be like eighteen hours a week. I think that is manageable.

10 is a good number if you're really unsure about how many hours you're capable of working -- it shouldn't be too much for anyone.

If you're good with time managment, 15-20 hours a week won't be impossible.

I have a really flexible lifeguarding job at the campus pools. My courseload is only 17 hours, but those hours include Calc 3, Acc Orgo, 1st real ChemE course, & Physics E&M. Basically a pretty hard lot. So I started with 5 hours a week (basically pocket change for the weekend or money for eating out) and am going to increase if I find it to be not to bad or an easy week or sub-out if it is difficult or impossible week.
