What's an interview like at Yale?

How do you prepare for an interview at Yale? What should you wear? What kind of questions do they ask? I've got one coming up on campus and need to prep. Help!!

There is a very lengthy thread called RD Applicants: Interview Advice that you should search for in the Yale forum. It's more about alumni interviews, but it should answer some questions.

I think their questions could be quite casual. Relax! Everything will be fine!

Just be yourself and present it in a strong, determined manner...don't fret over it too much

A small room with a wicker chair. A lone, bare lightbulb, swinging slightly. Very hot. Squeaky steel door.

No, you'll be fine. Yale admissions people (staff and student staff) are very friendly. Just enjoy yourself! Wear a shirt and tie.

They're very casual... you talk to a senior about anything (appropriate), your academic/extracurricular interests, any questions you have about yale etc. Its just a conversation. Try to include a few interesting things about yourself, and come with a few good questions about yale. And be friendly! There's absolutely no reason to be nervous.

What do you think is appropriate to wear? I have an interview on campus in July, so it will probably be really hot. I don't want to look too casual but I don't want to sweat to death, either. I'm assuming since most of the on campus interviews are with seniors, you can be a little casual?

D's interviewer told her at the end that she liked the way that D took her time to think about the questions, and that she showed maturity and intelligence in her answers.

D really wanted to go to Yale and it was her first choice reach school. She had many good reasons to back this up, making it very clear that if accepted she would attend. This was not the first interview of the year, she had already interviewed for H&P as well as some merit scholarship programs and other schools. She felt like the practice was invaluable for handling the Yale interview.
She was interviewed by an Alumnus and not an Admission Officer. The Interviewer had a sheet of questions from Yale that she was asking though.

(D will be attending Yale in the fall)
