what's in a name?

recent situations have caused me to address this situation, and i know i'm totally lame for bringing this up on CC, but it has been seriously irking me

could you ever date someone with the same name as your dad? brother? etc? something about that doesn't seem right to me... but does it really matter at all?

yes this is a stupid thread, but i can't ask my friends or my family (duh) so i'd appreciate some opinions

Oh, it's not stupid!! I think about names quite a lot, too! Haha! I think it would be weird to date someone with the same name as my dad! I guess it shouldn't really matter, but I always think of what the last name of my future husband will be, and if that last name will sound right with my first, as well! ;)

I never thought about that. In my culture, an older brother is basically a father to you, and both your father and older brother are to be heavily revered and obeyed.

So...I don't know. It would be very awkward (I assume) to date someone with a sibling's name or my father's name. When it comes down to it, if this person is absolutely incredible, and I'm really interested in it, I think I would get used to it. It would definitely be awkward (in the beginning, at least), though.

I would indeed find it weird for a girl to be named "Daniel".

I don't think I would be able to...too many awkward moments!

I have never thought of that, but I don't think it would really bother me, i mean, I'm sure you would get used to it and it wouldn't matter. I always wonder what would happen if you dated someone with the same name as you...like Alex or Taylor- girl and boy name. haha

^^ thatd be interesting lol

^ahhhh!

alex turner is currently dating this chick named alexa chung.
alex and alexa?
HOW FREAKIN ANNOYING IS THAT!?
I'd never be able to handle it.
people refer to them as alex/a
ew.

hahaha. I'm completely convinced this is why their relationship is [hopefully] not going to work. I really don't like that girl!
=P

My brother had a friend Christopher (called Chris) who dated a girl named Christine or Christina (also called Chris) throughout middle and high school.

I once had a HUGE crush on a boy named Scott which is also the name of my brother and dad and I didn't think it was weird at all, but I don't know everyone's different. Perhaps were attracted to those with the same names as the one's who've cared for us our whole lives.

I've had a crush on somebody with my dad's name. That wasn't awkward.

I had a crush on somebody with my dog's name (Izzy)... now THAT was awkward.

Yah I can totally see how having a crush on/going out with someone with your dog's name would be awkward. I would never be able to take them seriously lol.

Imagine screaming out your parent's name during sex :P

Ummm...how about not, Cono? That goes way beyond just disturbing.

The names of all my family members are quite rare in America, so I doubt I'll ever have to deal with this problem.

Chill prole it's a joke :S Forgot where I was saying the joke though... Should have expected it.

Though it's a possibility if you're a girl dating a guy with a family member's name.

Yeah, my parents' names are both very un-American...

But my brother's...Huh, that's a good question. I've never been in that situation before, but I can see it being awkward in certain situations.
