What's life like over at CSU Monterey Bay

I started my college list and narrowed it down to 9 so I'm thinking of applying to this one not only is it in southern cali but its by the beach(I think or some water)...I live in the bay area so I probably can't visit soon. Are there a lot of people from norcal going there is no what's like compared to home. And is the student body equally diverse racially because my high school is almost but I like and kinda use to it..I don't think id feel comfortable if there was predominantly 1 race even if its my own. Thanks
And I'm a girl if that affects my experience b/c my bro is always trying to scare me with these stories of rape from certain colleges I was thinking of going to but I'm sure it could happen at any college.

Where in the SF Bay Area are you from? I think that CSU Monterey Bay is about 1.5 hours south of SF, a bit south of Carmel. Not quite on the beach - in the rolling hills above Highway 1, above the town of Seaside.

I live near Oakland but I don’t think I want to go to Monterey since its small and doesn’t have a lot of majors

monterey just south of the bay…so its not really considered so cal. the beach is pretty close by car. and yes, the school pretty diverse

I know this is an old post, but for those who are thinking about it:

CSUMB is pretty close to the beach and lots of cool things. The town of Monterey and the surrounding area are beautiful and there’s a lot of things to explore. Plenty of beaches, parks, hiking. If animals are your thing you’ve got the Elkhorn Slough to the north, Monterey Bay Aquarium in town, and opportunities for diving, whale watching, and fishing all along the coast.

But Monterey isn’t SoCal. This is not a warm, sunny, tropical place. The average high in September is 70 degrees, and year-round you’re often dealing with fog in the mornings and evenings, and that fog is COLD.

As another poster pointed out, the campus is not in Monterey proper. The campus is built on an old military base, and there’s not much in the immediate area. Pretty much everything you want or need is a short drive away, but, everything you want or need is a short drive away.

Monterey is a beautiful area, just don’t assume it’s going to be anything like San Diego.
