What's next for Scholars semifinalists?

no i don't believe so
on second thought, maybe. if so, then my counselor is probably just incompetent and clueless because she was surprised when I told her

ok... so what do we exactly do now?
for oxford scholars, they gave you a registration form to let them know you're coming to the weekend. in the emory scholars packet, there is no such form.
also, what do you do about your airline ticket? do you buy it and they reimburse, or do they arrange it for you? is that info coming soon or what?

I assume that we will get that info when finalist decisions come out. Since not all semifinalists (one 75/350) actually go to finalist weekend, thats probably why they didn't give us that info.

^^^ oh yeah, good point. silly me

For the travel to finalists' weekend, they usually make the travel arrangements for you; if I remember correctly, you tell them your home airport and then a ticket magically appears (probably an e-ticket by now.) (I'm a former Emory Scholar.) Also if I remember correctly, they do give you some choices as to schedule. There were two of us from the interview weekend on the same flight.

Hey--all you semi-finalists--my letter said the finalist weekend is March 21-24, but this is a different date from what the website says. It seems to be a mistake, because they would not have this over Easter weekend. Is my letter a fluke and incorrect?

everyones is like that. their mistake

does anyone know HOW the finalists are chosen?

They find pictures of us and glue our pictures onto a dartboard, then they throw darts at us and whoever's picture doesn't get hit, gets to be a finalist. :-p

I really don't know lol

hahaha i like your idea phonyreal. now if i can just make sure my picture is extra big...

so... are they really sending our schools the results tomorrow (2/1)?

edit: nvm, i just realized that was for NMF

but does anyone know when we find out if we made scholars finalist wknd?

Around February 15.

Anybody have any idea about how we're notified? OPUS, email, snail, or some combination?

I think it's snail but I'm not entirely sure.

if you are selected as a finalist, does that guarantee that you'll get the full scholarship or what?

No, I think all finalists are guaranteed SOME kind of money, but not the full one.

I read somewhere on an earlier thread that all who are invited to Finalist Weekend typically receive full tuition (75 invited - 50 full-tuition, 25 full-ride).

No idea on how true that is.

All 75 or so finalists get some money (full tuition-full ride).

About 100 semifinalists get the John Emory 2/3 tuition (about $22,000 or so per year) scholarship.

Most of the rest get liberal arts scholarships worth $10k-$14k/year.

I got the Liberal Arts last year 10K + another 5K when full fin Aid Letter was sent. You will get a letter, but the letter will be posted on your OPUS account sooner.

I'm a semifinalist; I have been a lurker on these boards for a while. I just checked on OPUS and the link "View Decision" (or something like that...the link with the letter) is now gone.

Hope they put up the new results soon!
