What's so bad about dressing well in college?

yeah, i figured it'd be too dressy.

yes, you're right..you should do it Cal-style and come to class in the nude.

Gah. Kell, I don't know what Laguna Beach you're talking about. All the girls I've known from laguna (which are many, since I grew up right around there) all try very, very, very, very, very hard. VERY. And half the time it doesn't really do any good.

Effortless is not something that Laguna girls are good at.

But I agree with you about effortless being hot.

haha..sorry, I guess I wasn't very clear.

yes, laguna girls do try hard to look good..but it appears as though they just effortlessly threw themselves together...pulling off a casual, yet sexy look.

Yeah. Like if Hollister and Gucci had a baby, it would be what the girls from Laguna usually end up with.

But yes. It's a good look.

Hollister shouldn't be allowed to have babies

No. It really, really shouldn't.

Hell, Abercrombie shouldn't have been allowed to have babies, which would've allowed us to avoid Hollister altogether.

lets be real. dressing well serves many purposes. just because those purposes arent necessarily tangible does not mean that dressing well is pointless.

dressing well can make you more attractive to the opposite sex
it can express your intersts, musical tastes, it can show companies that you like to support (like wearing a motorcycle brand if you want to express your interest in bikes and develope comraderie with other riders)
in life in general dressing well is an important skill. you should be able to iron and starch a shirt and keep all your clothing in good condition for the workplace. you can't wear sweats all throughout college and all of a sudden have the skill to put together a good outfit that matches for the workplace.

I don’t think that someone should REALLY dress up for classes.
But then again, I still have years until college…
But I think if you wear a cute shirt, jeans, and whatever shoes you’re ‘into’, it’s cool.

I don’t have a problem who dress however they want. I do have a problem with people telling me that I’m underdressed. It doesn’t matter, each person has their own preferences.

"you can’t wear sweats all throughout college and all of a sudden have the skill to put together a good outfit that matches for the workplace. "

Funny, I’m not having any problems.

I like to dress up. Not like heels and miniskirts or anything but yeah, what’s wrong with doing your makeup and wearing a cute outfit? Could be jeans and a nice top or a casual dress or whatever. Do people really not dress up at 4 year unis? I go to a jc right now, i’m transferring in the fall, and everyone dresses differently, some people dress up and some come to class in sweats and no one cares. I assumed it’d be the same at a 4 year?

"you can’t wear sweats all throughout college and all of a sudden have the skill to put together a good outfit that matches for the workplace. "

fail

My daily attire is generally what’s clean. Followed by what’s not wrinkled. Followed by what doesn’t make me look homeless.

But when it’s job interview time, I can dress with the best of them. Okay, maybe not, but I look more than presentable and professional.

@enchantedivy yes it’s the same. Some people gussy up, some people look very preppy, a select few are in business suits (I don’t know why), some people are casual, some people are in PJs or sweats. It’s really not a big god damn deal, I don’t know how five pages of arguing about it happened.

I purposely dress sort of bummy on campus because most of the people here dress like crap. I usually wear a t-shirt, denim shorts, and flats. I actually love fashion (and not just your run-of-the mill Juicy Couture crap either); my natural inclination is to dress well but I just don’t want to stand out during the day. I think the girls who wear heels around campus look ridiculous. Maybe if I went to NYU, I’d dress how I normally dress.

The vast majority of people who dress up for class have one of the following things going through their heads:

“I like need to, like, be dressy so I look like, totally hot.”
“My mommy says that dressing sloppily is the gateway to drugs, parties, and premarital sex.”
“God, I hate these plebes I’m forced to be with; they don’t even bother to wear a proper suit.”

All of these are dumb.
