What's so bad about hill?

Lofting beds is interesting. You can definitely do it, but very few people do. No one in my suite had even heard of lofting beds, which I was quite confused by. However, by the end of the year I did find a few people who had lofted their beds.

mnasy1122: How is the size of room 538 and how are the windows? Anything special about the room? What's the inside common area like?... Just couches and stuff?

what would we need to get to build lofts?

dlindhol, check your PM

excuse my ignorance, please, but what is "lofting beds"? Is that just elevating them a few inches above the ground or something else?

It's when you put your bed over your desk, so now it's technically a bunk bed. It's great because it give you much more room in your dorm. I know some schools where the beds are already lofted.

Bed on top
Desk on bottom

dlindhol: nah, nothing too special, normal sized room. I think you have a long and skinny window (see my pictures in the other thread for an idea of what it looks like.. kinda sucks at first, but it makes it really easy to put up a curtain because the blinds they give you don't really block much light..) you're right next to the inside common area which is very nice and I know the kids that lived in there threw some pretty big parties, so have fun ;)

heardheadedchild: I don't belive you can loft beds in Hill. you can bunk the beds, but unless you somehow end up alone in a double, lofting the beds really isn't going to be possible (or you'll have to be very creative..)

Note on bunking/lofting.. the ceilings in Hill aren't very high.. if you bunk, the person on top will hit their heads occasionally, and so might the person on the bottom.. you also have to take the draws out from under your bed most likely. It does give you more room, but it might be more of a hassle than it's worth (I just know because my friend's roomate moved out, and so she bunked the beds to give herself a lot more room.. but no one had to sleep up there!)

I'm a junior and lived in Hill freshman year on the third floor. You can loft the beds but it is going to be difficult. One boy did loft his bed, but he built the frame completely by himself by going in early to get measurements for the bed and room. It did create a lot more space because he but his dressers and an extra chair underneath.

lilac, im going to be 3rd floor too, do u by any chance know anything about 329...like what kind of window it has? thanx

I knew a few people in hill that lofted their beds...it's definitely possible. These two guys I knew lofted their beds...under one they had a couch, under the second one they had their dressers with the tv and surround sound on top...then the desks were against the back wall near the window.

That was my room! I'm trying to remember what the windows are like. Lol, I did actually take pictures of the room, but they are at home and I'm still in Philly. I know that there are two sizes of windows in Hill, and mine were the larger size. I think that they swing out when you open them.

REALLY??!!!! thts so crazy! so its the long horizontal window? what part of the building is it in? does it face the outside or wht? is it close to a bathroom? anything special about it? lol sorry im just so curious!

this is Legendofmax btw Third floor, here

It faces over the field (which sucked when they were doing construction) or the Northern direction. You are very close to a bathroom about two doors down from it, but the bathroom is in another suite. And not close to the hall common areas, which is good or bad. Good if you want to study, but if you want easy access to the sinks. Also the suites run from 301 to 330 so you are almost at the end of rooms in the suite, again good and bad. Good because the G.A.'s room is pretty far from you bad because I felt like no one came to visit us because most of my good friends in the suite lived in the opposite end so I always had to go find them.
Hope that answers some questions, but I'm always happen to help.
