What's so great about a TI-89?

A lot of people swear by them.

What makes them so much better than an TI-83+?

it can do everything!

but sometimes, it's way too complicated for it's own good.

it does calc II for you. they're not allowed in my class. D:

It's easier to operate than the TI-83 once you get the hang of it. Better for stats & calc for sure. Mostly due to all of the specified apps...like stats/list editor.

One wouldn't need it, but once one understands the TI-89, it's really inconvenient to use the 83 since the operation of functions differ.

Once you get to higher math, the 83 becomes essentially useless.

All I know is we got our daughter one and she said she will never go back. It will be interesting to see how the new Inspire's play out.

TI 89: better/easier to do calc functions like derivatives, graphs faster
TI 83: (IMO) easier to find the keys

I brought both to my AP calc exam just in case. Ultimately, I'd choose a TI-89

I love my 89. But, as pointed out, the 83 is apparently simpler in many ways. The 89 is the first graphing calculator I've ever actually owned, and I don't think I could have gotten through math and physics this year without it!

YES it can do everything!!!!

Superfluous before calc 3. It would save a lot of time though, if you know how to use it.

It has an equation solver (very handy) and can do complicated derivatives / integrals for you :)

lol maea, you do realize the TI-83 also has an equation solver

Yeah but I never use it because I always forget it's there ._. haha I guess that's not a good reason to like the 89 better. Though I do prefer the 89's organization - everything is easier to find IMO, including the equation solver :P

Anyone worth anything knows that the TI-92 is where it's at.

Hope this is a joke. -_-

92 really can't do much that the 89 can't.

symbolic differentiation/integration. 50char?

really, though, it's also faaaar more user-friendly. it has a pretty gui. it has menus.

it's awesome. :)

What about Voyager 200?

The TI-89 Titanium is totally worth getting.

But as for where it's at, the Nspire looks orgasmic.

calculators with a QWERTY keypad is a no-go.

I was using my sister's TI-83+ this year, but now she needs it back.

next year I'll be in calc, so is it worth the extra money to buy the 89? if it is, I need to start convincing my parents right away :D

(my parents are a bit on the control freaks side of life, so any change requires convincing arguments)

if you take calculus, you know whats so great about a TI-89
