I'm a rising senior from Wisconsin. White male from 60k family income. Gpa is 3.8 or 3.9 unweighted. 4.0 weighted. Currently #2 in my class of 65, but I may fall to #3. (Valedictorian has a solid chance at HYP) I wont have AP classes other than calculus and European History. I go to a small Lutheran school so my options are limited. I have as rigorous a schedule as I can. It's not 100% the most difficult possible but that's due to scheduling conflicts. I scored a 35 on my ACT.

Ive played varsity football since my sophomore year, and will most likely be a captain this year. I was on our FIRST robotics team this year. Im in NHS and will be president of my schools chapter next year. I've been involved in student council years and will be the student body treasurer. I was selected to participate in Badger Boys State.(American Legion leadership program. Don't know how much weight this carries) I also work 20 hours a week during school if that matters.Full time in the summer.

Please chance me for the following schools.
Cornell
Northwestern
Dartmouth
Brown
I realize all of these are reached but what are my odds of getting into at least one?
I would like to apply ED to my top choice but still need to decide. ED will obviously help, but is it that much of a game changer? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Your work experience, especially during the school year, will help you. Other than that, you don’t have anything super special. Strong grades, strong scores.

I would bet on you getting into at least one of those schools. Use ED to your top choice, only. Make sure you want to go there. The impact of ED depends on the school. Just know that at most sporty schools, ED acceptances are given to the recruited, or other hooks.

Okay, thanks for the input. I’ve toured Northwestern. Im interested in computer science so Cornell is very appealing as well. Isnt that the “easiest” ivy to get into?

If you go into ■■■■■■■■■■, make an account, and fill out your profile, they can determine your ability to get into any school you select. It can tell you who’s being admitted, the scores you need to have, acceptance rates, etc. as well as scholarships you can apply for based on your information.

Thanks! I actually have used Cappex before, but I’ve heard their chances are often way higher tham reality. Does anyone know how accurate parchment is at chancing?

I think you’ve framed your question correctly, as these are dream schools for many.

The GPA is solid and the ACT is very, very strong. That ACT is competitive anywhere. So not counting ECs:

Dartmouth and Northwestern – Dartmouth & NU seem to be really into scores, making them a strong factor in the admissions process.

Brown and Cornell –
Brown and Cornell seem to be a bit less dependent upon test scores.

Your ACT score sticks out. I think you’d have a somewhat better chance of getting into schools that put relatively more weight on test scores. So I think you have a better chance at Dartmouth and NU than you do at Cornell and Brown.

I like your chances of getting into at least one, especially if your ECs are good.

Thanks, I appreciate that info. I figured some schools favored test scores and some were more holistic. Im proud of my ACT and want to make the most of it.

Just remember to add some true matches too. And being from Wisconsin, and interested in Northwestern… have you considered also taking a shot at U of Chicago? That way you have one more shot to get an elite private undergraduate education close to home. Also in the area are Notre Dame, Carleton and Grinnell.

U of Chicago I haven’t looked at too closely. I assumed I wouldn’t have much of a chance there. I toured and liked both Carleton and Grinnell. Im applying to both. Im also applying to UW Madison and U of M Twin Cites, so Im not banking on one of the most selective schools. Im just applying and hoping for the best.

Don’t sell yourself short. I think you would also have a solid chance at UPenn. If you can visit it, it would be worth your while to consider it. They have a strong CS program, and it is an outstanding school overall.

Yeah, I realize I dont have any hooks or outstanding extracurriculars. My ACT is really the strongest part of my app I think and that just puts me in the neighborhood for these schools.
