Most of the posts concerning dorms came out before 2015 which means that the information they provide aren’t exactly up to date, especially when it comes to Campus North. Could someone please me with updated information regarding this subject matter (especially on Campus North)? Any pictures of the rooms provided at Campus North would be greatly appreciated (the photographer hired appears to be too preoccupied with taking pictures of the common are and the outside of the building). Thanks!
Campus north is the newest dorm complex at UChicago. Stay there, it’s close to everything, and has the nicest rooms out of all the dorms. I am a 4th year now that lives off campus, but if I was still in housing, I would most definitely want to live in North.
@RandomNameGen North is nice in many respects but it’s not for everyone. The houses are much bigger compared with some of the other dorms (every house has ~100 people in it, compared to 40-80 for other houses. I can honestly say I don’t know half the people who live in my house). House cultures isn’t that big of a thing either, at least not as much as other dorms like Snitchcock. It does have some great facilities and living space—cool 3 story lounges, a 15th floor reading room + study rooms (with a gorgeous view of the city and campus), music practice rooms with pretty much new pianos, a rec room, 2 glass community rooms with a fireplace, piano, and comfy chairs, and the dining hall is 3 steps away. Every house also has a kitchen and I think they all have a study room in the house (I may be wrong about that). Sometimes it doesn’t really feel “homey” though and can feel like you’re living in a mix of a hotel and hospital–everything is painted white and has a very “cold” feeling to it. The rooms are okay size, though the singles are pretty small (hard to fit more than ~3 people without it feeling super crowded). Lots of athletes chose this dorm because of its proximity to Ratner and Crown and it can also be nice if you’re hoping to have chances of getting an apartment in the future while still staying on campus. To be completely honest there are some days when I regret putting north as my first choice and wish I had gone for a smaller/older dorm (ie snitchcock or BJ) and some where I’m glad I did–it’s a matter of perspective.
