Whats the fascination with rock music

Where I am none of it gets played. Some people at my school, the caucasian group, like it. The way I see it I may not like it because I never gave it a chance because I never liked reggae music before because I thought it was plain rubbish growing up. Rock seems so convoluted and while there may be a few of those songs that get popular here no one gives them the time of day. Why is it so popular?

Really? What kind of music do you prefer?

hip hop, so me r&b, some culture music (its a caribbean thing) and that is basically it. Sometimes there is a pop song or other that I like but for the most part its those that I said

You probably just don't know much except for "radio rock," much of which is garbage.

Ohh, dude you're missing out on so much. Once you dive into the world of rock (no radio garbage), you will never leave.

maybe its a black thing or caribbean thing. Its not common here

If you want to try it, start with The Ramones, Queen, and AC/DC. They'll make your ears love.

You just have to learn to appreciate the sound of the electric guitar. That's one of the most fundamental elements to loving rock.

hmm interesting. I never thought of it that way

it's the instruments that makes it so awesome--i prefer rock because the music isn't synthesized.

but the songs you hear on the radio generally aren't true "rock," i'd say. that stuff came back in the '60s and '70s with the beatles, the rolling stones, the who, led zeppelin, the doors..all of what we now label "classic rock."

and if you want to hear some punk rock, don't go for current stuff like green day or all-american rejects. try the clash! :)

..in my opinion, rock goes downhill past AC/DC.

I fought the law!!!!!!!!

even though they covered that, it rocks

there are some hardcore fans of those bands in my school but not much. I have noticed that no black people here listen to it

i like the clash and the ramones and all that good stuff, but im not a snob who looks down on contemporary "poser" music. ill admit it. i like yellowcard. i like fall out boy. so there.

The only place I hear those songs are on my Madden Soundtrack

i love ben folds (five)..generally i don't care too much for pop-rock stuff, though, because the lead singers sound whiny and that drives me crazy haha

i hate people who basically have a competition to be the first person to listen to a band..and then they shun them when they have a hit song and call them "sell-outs." this is america..how can you hate someone for wanting to make money?

I like the indie, as they call it.

dude, play some skynyrd.

freebirdddd :)

obviously you cant hate a band for making it big, but i can understand the frustration fans feel when bands start making it big and appearing on trl and all of a sudden these teenyboppers are like OMG THEYRE SO HOT. like whats going on now with panic! at the disco... :( . ah well. i dont begrudge them their success.
