Hi,

I'm currently trying to decide between stanford or duke as far as my super reach dream school, and I think what it is going to come down to is which one I honestly have a better chance of getting into. So I was wondering, since my stats completely suck for stanford (3.85 or so UW in hardest courses...whats worse is that they don't look at freshman grades, and I had a 4.0 frosh year :(, 30 ACT), whats the "worst" applicant you've seen get into Stanford? And athletes do not count because I'm not going to get in based on athletic ability

california_love8,

Sometimes you to have to remind yourself that college admissions are a complete crapshoot. Moreover, the people that post their stats on college confidential are usually the cream of the crop. Don't let anything to limit you. Apply to both Stanford and Duke. If you get accepted to both, you have a choice to make. If one accepts you and one doesn't, then so be it - you still have a great school to go to. If neither accepts you, well just remember when one door closes, another one opens.

Asking chances on CC - I've come to learn - is completely worthless. No one here is an admission officer.

Sometimes in life you have to take a risk, and I hope you do.

why not apply to both?

I think she/he is trying to decide where to apply early.

good call fuzzylogic, that is precisely correct. Damn you stanford kids are smart! I wish I were like you guys!

Well I have heard that Stanford is more "qualitative" than "quantitative."

i would apply to stanford so that it's not binding. you never know-- you might change your mind given the options

If you can raise your ACT by a couple points, you might have a decent shot at Duke ED. That's a lot easier to get into than Stanford SCEA. If you're looking for stats of previous applicants, check out:http://www.hypothetic.org/ccstanford/?pagename=Main.SCEARoster

Note: These are CC applicants, so their stats are pretty high when compared to the majority of applicants

Of the 13 kids who applied to Stanford from our school SAT scores were 1350 (GPA 97 weighted) and 1420 (GPA 96 waited). Meanwhile they rejected two kids with 1500 SATs, and higher GPAs, including the one who I believe was class val. with almost 105 GPA. I believe one kid was a legacy and an athlete and the other an underrepresented minority. It's the reason I don't think my kid has a chance in **** of getting in although he applied anyway.
