What's the midyear report?

Hello,

I'm an international student from Zimbabwe. I just received a reminder from MIT that I need to fill in my midyear report and update. I understand the update bit, but am confused by the "midyear report". The school year system here is different from that in America - it starts in January and ends in November/December. I had two exams in 2012: the mock exam in June and the real thing in November (the result of the latter came out in early January).

Technically the "midyear" here would be in June, so this was how my school counsellor filled in the Common App:
(a) Secondary school transcript - all transcripts up to May 2012
(b) Midyear report - June 2012 mock exam result
(c) Final report - November 2012 real exam result

Since MIT also asks for transcripts, I'm sure (a) is sent by my school. But what should I do now? There is only space for one set of grades, so I can't submit both (b) and (c).

Thanks a lot!

Did you send them your midyear report transcript when you applied? If so, I would send them the final report grades. There is a place you can make a comment so just let them how your school year runs and that these are final grades. If you have not submitted either grade I would just put both grades in (example A,A or 93, 94) and tell them that they are mid year and final grade.

I sent them an email cause I did my A Levels from St John’s in Joburg (having the same scholastic year system). They replied saying that you must select “not in high school” or something like that just under the grades portion but just above the additional comments. You can then fill out the comments however you like - making sure your school has sent in your grades, and has organised (if for example you have done A Levels) - that the exam board sends in your official transcript/statement of results.
