What's the one thing that people say about your college that annoys you?

About Rutgers:

“Anyone can get accepted there”
“So, you didn’t get accepted to your first choice, did you?”
“You are going to become a party animal. Whoooo…!!!”
“lol, Chinatown” or “lol, New Delhi” (one of our 4 campuses have a majority of East and South Asians)

Isn’t it really hot there? It must be nice to go to a college that’s right on the beach.

Also French rappers wear our colors. Respek. :aligsnap:

UNC Chapel Hill:

Them:
“Chapel Hill?!? Are you… gay?!?”

Me:
“I said Chapel Hill, not Durham.” :D

University of Victoria (in BC, Canada)

“Really? Isn’t that a party school?” (well… other people party…)

“Aren’t they all stoners over there?”

“Isn’t that the hippie school?”

“Why didn’t you go to UBC (more famous school nearby in Vancouver)?”

UC Davis

“COWTOWN~~~!!”
“Oh my god, it must reek of cow crap.”
“*** is an Aggie?” <- valid question, though.

Princeton:

“Great school, you must be smart”
“It’s expensive, did you get a schoarship?”

Stanford:

“Great school, you must be smart”
"It’s expensive, did you get a schoarship?

UConn:

HUHUHUH, so, liek, ur gonna party n’ **** right?

^ got that exact response in a facebook message a few months ago.

USC -
“University of South Carolina?” - no.
“University of spoiled children” - no.
“Is that a state school?” - no.

stanford:

again,
“You must be really smart!”
–me: “haha…um. haha.” awkward silence/smile. how do you respond to that, really?

“I hear the people there are snobby legacies with rich parents.”
–me: some people are but this is not my greatest concern in life. most people I know are great.

“Wow! Yeah, my cousin’s friend’s sister’s son’s neighbor goes to Harvard/Yale/etc”
–me: and I care because? You don’t expect me to know them do you? Is this a competition?

“Well I/my son/mydaughter goes to ______ and they [insert great things and happy feelings] for half the price”
–me: “haha, wow that’s great yeah totally awesome and yeah!” smile, reassurance that said school is also awesome.
Sometimes I feel like I can’t express that I like my school without coming off as snobby or “bragging”. Yes, I like Stanford. No I do not think I am in any way better than you or anyone else. haha.

^ I agree! I hate when people say ‘Wow…you must be smart’ I cant do anything but shrug.
I almost dont want to tell people where I go (am going) because the reaction is always like yours! Ex. At our academic banquet a lot of seniors were saying where they were going to college, and when I said Penn everyone was like ‘you don’t have to rub it in’ ‘who wants to go after that’ ‘why is she bragging’ ‘my child could have gone if she wanted to’ T__T. Can’t I say my college proudly without appearing pretentious?!

Haha same here … I just like Stanford and I think all of the other colleges are great for other people; just not for me. I’m the only one in my school that got into an “elite” university and when I’m asked where I’m going when I’m with friends or I wear my shirt to the mall, they think I show off when that’s totally not the case.

“That’s a party school…”

WUSTL

“oh, is that in dc or in the state?”

…grumble."

Lolz, that is so funny! I’m from Washington State, moved to STL a few years ago and everybody asks me that.

However, I think most people think I’m from DC since I’m black. Lolz.

"Haha same here … I just like Stanford and I think all of the other colleges are great for other people; just not for me. "

Though I’m not in IVY League right now, I plan on going to MIT. Even with my “lesser” college I feel like I’m being pretentious with my school shirt, can’t imagine wearing that.

“UDub Seattle - I’m from San Diego so I often get the “oh, I hope you LOVE a lot of rain because it rains so much ‘up there’” response from people who have never been out of the state before and really have no idea about anything other than what they hear on tv or from others. gets annoying.”

Coming from Washington, I get the same response from everybody. I mean, it rains a lot, but I’m used to it. Reminds me of a Grey’s Anatomy episode.

When people think Purdue is the chicken company… yes… I’m majoring in butchering.

That there are a bunch of rednecks at my school.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a negative thing about my school from speaking with anyone, but I can imagine someone might say “Couldn’t get into Knoxville, huh?”

Bahaha, this is the perfect thread for me! Here I work hard to get into my dream school, and all people can say is, “Well, you can always transfer, right?”

If I’m feeling nervy, I respond with, “Oh, is that your husband? Well, at least you can always get divorced!”

So rude.
