I heard getting a few B’s in the IGETC stuff isn’t as bad as getting a B in the Transferable Major required classes, any truth to this?

Its pretty bad IMO… if you’re getting Bs in music appreciation… haha

Agreed with @blackmamba and I remember someone posting something on a UC Transfer thread that was along the lines of “UC’s don’t want students who get A’s in science and math courses, while also getting B’s and C’s in Art History etc…”

What about Dance History…? -______-
I have a sad story from a CC.

@iwillflyby yup. Dance History also:

Intro to decision making
Marriage Therapy
Intro to book organization
Intermediate keyboarding
Exam preparation course (.5 units)

The list goes on…

Lulz. Then this will look bad. Seriously that C still haunts me. It’s because my CC hires professors that shouldn’t be teaching a classroom class. Tskk.

I had a teacher who told me something like ''A good student learns from both good and bad professors". I agree. You’ve got your share of bad professors still ahead of you, and you’ll have to adapt. Or will you just take a C every time you have a bad prof.? It’s infuriating, I know. I’m still mad at an idiot philosophy teacher I had for ethics. I hated his method, not to mention his attitude (he used to claim he was smarter than most people, plain and simple). But now I look back and I know I could have gotten an A with a bit more effort.

Anyway for majors that don’t have too many prereqs, I’m sure they’d prefer someone who still went ahead and took classes from the same department or that at least aimed at their academic interests.

Hypothetical: Two students applying for mechanical engineering @ UCLA

Student 1: @blackmamaba
Student 2:@screen…

Student 1: gets all A’s in calc/physics/chem and B’s in IGETC courses

Student 2: Gets all A’s and B’s in calc/physics/chem

The both have same GPA and extracurricular activities

Who would the engineering department accept, blackmanba or screen…?

I think anyone can memorize art history, but it takes more logical and analytically sense to interrupt math. So getting a B in music history won’t affect you when you get all A’s in math :)

Lol I was about to define ITEGC and IGECT before you edited your post :)

@UCHopeful12 I was looking at the C’s and B’s for gen. ed classes in the sense that if Student 1 was getting all A’s in calc/chem/phys then there shouldn’t be an excuse for Student 1 to be getting C’s and B’s in classes where you only have to “memorize” material.

Hypothetical: What would Student 1 put the blame on if he/she doesn’t get into UCLA Mechanical Engineering.

Art History, Music Appreciation etc… Too many B’s lying around?
