Okay, so I'm 15, Korean, and I have really fair skin. My skin was perfect and porcelain until the middle of my first semester of 9th grade (which was last year). My classmates would compliment me on my skin and ask me what I used. I used Cetaphil's Gentle Skin Cleanser and Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel, by the way. Then, all hell broke loose. I got acne all over the sides of my face and under my chin, which was really awkward. It wasn't just small acne either, there were huge, gross, cystic-like pimples. It left me with scars that looked like acne too. I tried a bunch of products. These products would work really well, then they would all of a sudden stop working. I used the acne solutions set from Clinique, the 3 step system (also from Clinique), and basically everything from Cetaphil and LUSH.

Towards the end of the school year, I watched a bubzbeauty video about cleansing with oatmeal. Ever since I tried it, which has been about 4 months, all my acne and acne scars have disappeared, and my complexion has evened out. All I do is cleanse my skin with oatmeal and moisturize with my moisturizer from Clinique twice a day. Once a week, I'll exfoliate with Clinique's Exfoliating Scrub. If you can't tell by now, I really like Clinique. I also put on sunscreen on my face if I'm going outside. I HAVEN'T GOTTEN A SINGLE PIMPLE YET! (Even during those monthly visits from Aunt Flo)

She is absolutely aggravating, but this remedy works so well.

Oh, and I have slightly oily skin.

Have you heard of the mint julep masks? You can buy them at Walgreens. You apply it once a week and it’s pretty good with reducing redness/stuff. Leaves your skin radiant and soft C:

^ I have seen it at Walgreens, but I haven’t brought myself to buy it yet. I don’t know why, because if I recall, it was only around $4.

I’m mildly curious about this Aunt Flo and her monthly visits…

Nice to hear that you found something that worked.

anyway, my procedure:

I just use a combination of hand sanitizer, curry powder, and magnesium citrate, which I mix up in the bottle every month or so. I just dispense some on my fingers, rub it on my face (avoid the eyes), remember to rub it off, and I’m done.

Thanks for sharing!

Yeah I have mild ance, and I’ve recently starting using procativ.

It helps a little.

i tried the oatmeal once but i just found it too messy, how do u it without leaving a mess?

i do egg white mask. easy and simple. leaves face shining and soft.
but i will try the oatmeal treatment. does it smell?

i just ordered proactiv on wednesday. We’ll see if this works.

But up until now, I’ve just been using St. Ives or Clearasil and then Oxy pads once a day. My skin’s not perfect, but I don’t have an acne problem, just a blackhead problem.

I just apply some acid to my face in the morning and it’s all good :).

I get some paint that matches my skin and just splatter it all over. The worst part is, sometimes I miss my face. :(

@angehere: The mess is probably the only con for this method. While cleansing my face, I try to prevent the oats from going down the drain (don’t want a clogged sink :P). Then, I just pick up the oats and throw them into the trash. It’s tedious but worth it.

@MysteryNoodle: The oats barely have a smell. Even if you didn’t like oatmeal, I’m sure it wouldn’t be too bothersome.

I use some cleanser from Aveeno every night. When I have a really bad pimple, I take a piece of aloe (which grows in my backyard) and just tape it to my face (gentle paper tape, of course) for some hours. Aloe really is magic when it comes to reducing swelling in pimples. Doesn’t make your skin smooth or anything, though (while, as a guy, I’m not really looking for shining, smooth skin).

I do want to give this oatmeal thing a try, though.

Nutrogena face wash in the shower, moisturizer before I go to sleep. And then use the face wash again in the morning and then I moisturize. If there’s a pimple I really hate, I use Murad’s on the spot skin treatment.

Benzoyl peroxide face wash
Clinique toner
Neutrogena spf 15 mosturizer
Ziana gel
Torzac cream

Aloe vera, hands down. It really cleared up my skin for good after I’d been using it for about half a year. Besides that, I wash my face with cold water every night and use a fragrance-free, oil-free moisturizer on it overnight.

Haven’t used a facial cleansing in a long time, but now that I think about it that could help. Before what I’d do was dot a bit of white toothpaste (I know, old wives’ tale?) on an isolated red bump and let it dry out the thing overnight. Then aloe vera and aloe vera until it’s gone (usually took about three or four days).

Those facial masks sound creative. I might try those out sometime…

Neutrogena Rapid Clear Oil-Control Foaming Cleanser
I used to use Clinique’s Clarifying Lotion 3 but found that the alcohol in it dried out my skin too much.
Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel
And then I use zap zit on any bothersome pimples.
