When admissions letters are going to be sent

I know this is one everyone is dying to know--me included--so I did a little sleuthing. First, I called an '83 alum who works for the university, who checked in with a friend in admissions--he said the office was shooting to have all of them out by the 16th (which is a Saturday).

I then called the admissions office directly myself, and they basically confirmed what my friend had told me. They are shooting to have the letters out at the end of this week. I'm pretty sure they ship them all out at one time...

So, that means as much as we love the idea of "out on the 12th, in our mailboxes by the 15th scenario", that is highly unlikely.

This is the same experience we had two years ago. Everybody on the board was convinced that the letters would go out earlier, in the logic of wishful thinking, and the dates were wrong. I seem to remember my son getting his letter on the deadline date the university had given--which, this year, would be December 19. Some people on the coasts got them later.

Not the news you want to hear, no doubt. Me either. But no use getting your hopes up and going into high anxiety alert for something that most likely will not happen until early next week....

Got the sense, by the way, that the student employee (she at least sounded like one--pretty young!) who answered the phone was not relishing her job at this moment. Also gathered that I was not the first to ask, or to come up with some kind of pretext to justify getting that information.

In any case, the rumors floating around about the 12th appear not to be true. We're looking at a ship-out date of the 15th or 16th, and letters beginning to arrive in mailboxes the 18th, 19th and beyond.

They will not be rushed by us! (Would be nice if they could be, though, wouldn't it? :))

This was about the exact dates as last year!! I remember thinking that if the letters went out on the 15th, we should have received it at best by the 17th. Wishful thinking!!! As I recall, it arrived to our home (Deep South) around the 19th. And, by the way, package to son that was mailed on 12-05 just arrived this morning at his dorm. Supposed to have been 2-3 day Priority Mail. So, I guess mail is running slow, what with the holidays and all. Hang in there--the mail service will get things delivered in due time. Best of Luck to all!!!!!

I'm giving up on expecting a shipment/arrival date, though I vividly remember that one of my good friends received his deferral letter on a Friday last year (the 16th, 2005, for the Chicagoland area).

Chicago is first in the line... Being just outside St. Louis, you wouldn't think mail would be that slow out here, but it's been ridiculous!

What I gathered was that they will be getting all the responses into envelopes on Friday, the 15th, and getting them in the mail on Saturday, the 16th...

I think giving up on an early arrival date is not a bad idea...

Looking at last years thread people got their letters between the 16 and 18th

You are a good thread researcher! :)

Is there anything on there about people contacting the university and being given a mailing date? I can't help but wonder if maybe they give a late date to prevent being deluged by phone calls of people wanting to know decisions.

Good luck to all of you Domer EAers. My thoughts have been with you all for the last few days; my prayers for you will be intensified this weekend!

I can't wait to read about the acceptance letters which I'm sure will be coming you all's way . . .

My mom called yesterday, and they said they'd be sent on on Saturday the 16th. I can't wait much longer!

I can't remember them ever giving a date before. I used to go and watch for big mail trucks for kids, lol. Can't do that this year since I am home already, sorry. I wouldn't be surprised if Saturday is the LATEST they send them out, if you know what I mean.

I called yesterday and they told me "first thing Saturday morning"
