The reason I'm asking is because I took Algebra 1 in 8th grade and the UC a-g list includes Algebra 1 as a course.

So should I include it?

The reason I'm asking is because I took Algebra 1 in 8th grade and the UC a-g list includes Algebra 1 as a course.

So should I include it?

That depends on your school.

My school system counts Algebra I, Latin I, Latin II, Band (8th), Art II, and Choir (8th) as high school courses.

I took a few of these and they are listed as high school credits on my transcript and they count towards my GPA.

You’ll need to ask your Guidance Counselor if any (and which) intermediate school classes roll-over to high school credits.

No, I wouldn’t. UC GPA is for 10-11 grade courses.

If it doesn’t show up on my high school transcript should I just leave it out
And to Columbia_Student I’m going to be applying to Cal Poly SLO, which requires 9-12th

I wouldn’t calculate as a GPA but I would put it on the “courses taken section”

Ask your college advisor at school

our son took Agl 1 in 7th
and Honors geo in 8th–
he was going to the high school for both math and science…so he has the Honors Bio he took with the soph while in 8th as well

That and his latin in 7th and 8th as well as Amer Gov and Econ ALL rolled into his transcript and are in his highschool GPA.

IF it appears in your official transcript–its counted–if you took it and advanced ahead/skipped a level when you reached high school–then its not in your GPA…
check to be sure. You don’t want to leave out your hard earned work.

Depends. At my school, Algebra I is an 8th grade course for most students and a 7th grade course for some, so it never counts, but geometry is a 9th grade course for most and an 8th grade course for some, so for those few, it counts. Check with your HS counselor.

um… how are you going to include your 12th grade classes in your GPA calculation? Did you take a gap year?

ColumbiaStudent is correct - for your GPA calculation, you use 10th and 11th grade courses. From CSU Mentor (application site for CSUs, including Cal Poly SLO)
<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;

^^alright i won’t be able to add 12th, but I’m pretty sure Cal Poly does include 9th grade when calculating GPA

at least that’s what my counselor told me

On the application, calculate your GPA using only 10-11, including app for Cal Poly.
After receiving your app, Cal Poly will re-calculate your GPA from 9-11, but you don’t do it.

Thanks,I figured i should just do what the application says^^^

There is a specific box on the UC application for 8th grade Algebra. The form is clear that the grade is not included.

That is good that schools don’t. Had a B in Middle school algebra…
