I'm curious to see at what point last year everyone sent in their apps. I myself sent mine off the first week of October (Harvard, as it is for many or most of us here, is my first choice, and I wanted to get my app to them asap). Is there any concrete benefit to sending it in so early?

I sent mine in during the beginning of September and got my likely letter in mid October. And no I’m not a ■■■■■ or whatever you CC people call it.

I sent mine on Nov 23rd I think. It was done in late October, so I should have sent it then, but whatever.

November 24, although I sincerely doubt that there is any admission advantage in doing so or that it acts as an admission factor in any way. I merely did it for the sake of respecting their preference.

Cool, thanks for the responses, guys. It’s always fun to have a curiosity satisfied.

last day
december 31st?
i forget now lol

I sent it in well before the deadline.

December 30th :D

January 1st :)

I sent it in pretty late.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there was slight discrimination or preference but I’m sure Harvard will make the right decision. Some of us had to wait for SAT scores, ED decisions, last minute edits, etc etc…

Just as long as your application doesn’t LOOK rushed I suppose.

@ thequestionmark: Certainly, it is more important to submit a great application later, than an average one earlier. Looking back, I suppose I could have buffed my essays to make them a little more narrative, but the great bard did once say, “Brevity is the soul of wit”.

And, when I say “application”, I mean simply the Common Application and the supplementary application to Harvard. The Dean who was my research mentor submitted his rec in November, I didn’t send in my solo track until December, and I think one of my teachers, who is retired at this point, sent in his recommendation December 21st. Obviously, my application was not truly complete for some time after I submitted it.

@ Golf001: I will reserve judgment, but Harvard is very clear about the fact that they begin the application review process on December 1st. How is it possible that they would send you that letter if they hadn’t even looked at your app?

I know that athletic recruitment and declarations of intent occur well before the evaluation of academic folks.

I gave myself lots of room just in case there were any slip ups in my application…

30th December :P

Yeah, golf - as his name suggests - is an athletic recruit (have seen other posts of his) so is possible. December the 29th but counsellor thing only got the on Jan 31st!

December 30th.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up for me everyone. Congratulations to you, Mr. Golf.

Dec 31st, then off to celebrate NYE!
