When do need-based FA packages come out?

I'm looking for a rolling public "safety" school and UMich seems to fit the bill, save for FA. (I know that Michigan is hardly a safety, but if you apply early and are accepted, it certainly is.) As OOS, with high stats, I'm hoping for a decent FA package (EFC approx. 20k). However--when does Michigan release FA packages? Do they normally accompany rolling decisions, 6-8 weeks after, what? There's not much point in applying as an early safety if I can't count on being able to afford it until April 1.

Well, let’s put it this way. You should apply early just to get in. Period. FA will NOT come early…more like April 15 by the time the dust clears. However, if you are a candidate for merit scholarships, you ARE generally notified early if you’ve applied early, and scholarship money is most plentiful for early applicants. Son got his first of two scholarships a week after admitted. A kid with similar stats in state got zero and is still on the waiting list. One difference is he waited to apply until end of Jan.
Hope that helps you determine your plan. It might not hurt to know that FA for OOS is very hit and miss at MI.
Good luck!

Thanks! Looks like it won’t be a safety. Oh well.
