I applied and was accepted EA from OOS, and I wanted to know from previous EA-accepted students if UMich sends out estimated aid packages earlier. This is what it says on the website:
“U-M begins sending award notification emails to entering applicants (first-year and transfer students) in March. Applicants are notified on a rolling basis, as the Office of Financial Aid receives application information. Apply early so you will be notified before the May 1 enrollment deposit deadline.”
I submitted the CSS Profile when I applied, but does Mich actually not calculate until March? Thanks!!
Estimated FA will not be sent until months later. Note that you have not even file the FAFSA. You may use the NFC as an estimate. Before you have the tax filed, all numbers are just estimate anyway.
Early estimates are for ED applicants because they have to commit right away. EA and RD applicants don’t need to commit until May 1. The FA office has no need to double its work to give an estimate and a final to EA students.
you won’t get it any sooner than the RD admits who turn in their FAFSA early, since finaid won’t start giving awards until well after that time. You will get it before the deferred admits however
No you don’t need to commit early. You’ll have time to compare the cost to other colleges/unis where you’ve been accepted. You and your parents should get the FAFSA submitted as soon as you can after January 1 and if you haven’t done so the Profile is also required. Award letters go out on a rolling basis to those with completed financial aid files. There is a scholarship profile you can access through your Wolverine Access to be considered for all available scholarships.
Oh well, of course that is what ED is - you apply and if accepted you attend unless you applied ED to somewhere that didn’t meet your Profile or FAFSA need. And only then after you reject ED does any other college or uni come into consideration. Everyone needs a financial safety schools on their list. Unless you are in-state you can’t really call UofM a financial safety because there is no guarantee your need will be fully met and even then there are families that can’t afford their need.
