I am confused about when prereqs have to be completed by. Do you have to complete them by the fall when you apply to transfer to a UC or by the end of spring before you enroll? Will you have a lower chance of being admitted if you did not complete your prereqs by the fall when you apply to transfer? What if you get accepted first and admissions notices that you didn't complete all the prereqs at the end of spring before you enroll?

If you are applying to Fall 2015 admissions, you must finish your 60 units, IGETC and as many major prereqs as possible by the end of Spring 2015. Good luck!

When you apply, you tell them all the classes you’ve completed, and currently taking. Then in January, you update your application, with your fall grades, and planned courses for the Spring. If you get accepted, then everything needs to match up to what you’ve told gem already.

You’re right. They generally reject applicants who haven’t completed math requirements by the end of fall, even if they’re otherwise qualified for admission and competitive applicants. I heard that they make exceptions for those who have very high GPAs, though(≥ 3.7).

I completed my last math class in winter and they accepted me, probably because my GPA was about 3.8 at the time.

To be more specific, that class I completed in winter was a transferable math class I needed for IGETC. It had pre-reqs that I needed to complete before I could enroll in it.

I saw a user on here that got rejected with a 3.9 GPA to UCSB because they were taking their transferable math in the spring. UCSB is weird, man.

@Wassupman99

Where are you applying to? What’s your major? It really matters if you’re applying to a major that is highly selective. You can take your prereqs in the spring though, so long as you’re finishing them.

It’s kind of odd they ask you to finish your prereqs by fall because I’m under the impression that the schools don’t even check your applications until they’re done with freshman applications. My UC Berkeley acceptance was dated April 13th, which was really close to the April 25th release date. I would think they’d say by Winter.

@2016Candles Sorry, I’m confused. I’m engineering major and will complete 4 transferable math courses by fall. If I take the last math course (differential equation) in spring, will UCSB reject me?

I’m no expert on UCSB, but from my understanding, the people who have issues are people who have not taken any transferable math class until the spring. If you’ve already taken transferable math courses, then I don’t think you would have an issue.

Yes that is true @2016Candles. A way around it is if there is another math class completed with a grade (even a non-transferable one). Basically all the UCs say finish those two math and English requirements by fall, if possible, but UCSB will reject you if it is the only math on your transcript and is in-progress in spring. I was told this by two UCSB admissions ppl.

Since I’m coming from another UC, do I need to complete the IGETC? Do I have to complete the GE requirements at my UC or is it just recommended?

IGETC only applies to community college applicants. Applicants from the UCs have to deal with “UC Reciprocity Agreements” if I recall correctly. You should consult assist.org about this.

Man, you guys got me a little worried about this math thing. I need to clarify. I’m taking my one IGETC math requirement in Winter (statistics). Do you guys see any issues with that for UCLA? They were pretty clear my IGETC just had to be done by the end of Spring, but is math some weird caveat that needs to be done earlier?
