I sent a pretty important update to my application on 2/12 but I’m afraid that they might have already come to a decision and my update was ignored. Anyone have any insight as to whether updates might be considered after a student has already been theoretically rejected by ao?
My guess is that they will continue to consider updates through March (and no, I don’t know specifically what date in March they will stop). That said, I can’t think of any update that would move an application from the reject pile to the accept pile.
It can’t hurt to call to confirm receipt. But unless this new update significantly changes/improves you as an applicant it probably won’t make a difference at Harvard.
In other words, don’t bother them to tell them you were elected Student Council President.
Ok. It was my guidance councilor submitting a revised mid year report due to errors in my grades. I’m guessing this might be important…
Question 1) Have you been ‘theoretically’ rejected or ‘actually’ rejected?
Question 2) How much of an impact did the correction of errors make?
- I don't know my decision but I would hope that my application is at least borderline. In the worst case that it's already been put in the reject pile I would like to know if the updates would simply just be ignored.
- The correction was regarding a change from a C grade in Calculus BC to a B grade along with an explanation that I had not taken the prerequisite AB course due to me transferring into a new school system. This would boost my GPA pretty insignificantly as I already had around a 3.9 even with the C but might ease any worry about senioritis or something math related even though I had all As for the rest of my courses and perfect SAT math scores.
At this point you have done everything you can. Keep in mind that Harvard must be considered to be a reach for any unhooked candidate. There is nothing to do but let the process take its course.
“would hope that my application is at least borderline.” You, like so many CC kids this season, are getting too stressed over a 5% college. And you have been, for some time. Now you hope one grade change, to a B, with an explanation, could seriously change your chance.
It will help you to see this more rationally. The competition is nuts, so many with everything lined up, great apps. It’s now out of your hands. Many factors apply. You did what you could.
Like everyone else, you wait. But yes, depending on your area, it is possible, in the 3rd week of Feb, that some regional finalists have been identified.
