Drumbonemom - if you mean add to a student’s “resume” of sorts, no - they wouldn’t do that.

Btw, the acceptance rate for USC this year will actually be 20%. They stated at Explore that they will turn away 4 out of every 5 applicants…

Jason,
Thanks for that statistic. I am trying to post information as it becomes available. This is the first time that figure had been mentioned.

oh 4 out of 5 is depressing.

Always remember that Spring admits can turn into regular admits after May 1. I know three people from my high school that happened with last year, when USC had fewer enrollees than expected.

lisapbs,

There may have been a spot or two that needed filling in a particular major, but SC had more than enough to fill the class last year. Target for SC is 2600. The class size for 2010 was 2972. That is one reason the admit rate is lower this year. There are only so many dorm spaces available and SC wants to keep the faculty student ratio at the present 1/9, or even lower in the future.

So if it turns out we all got ■■■■■■■ tomorrow, all hell is gonna break loose. Just sayin ;)

so if decision letters are mailed out tomorrow, does anyone think the supposed “backdoor” links will work during the day, or will we have to wait until later that evening/the next day? As an east coast student, I really don’t want to wait for my rejection letter to get here on Friday. I just wanna get this all over with.

Wait, so they need students to fill in certain majors? hm

Hey, for those of you still skeptical about the mail out date, I just called them and the representative confirmed that the mail out date was tomorrow!!!

Point of clarification: If you get accepted then they send priority mail (1-3 days) however if you get rejected they send it in first class standard mail (3-8 days). What this means is that if you are accepted you should have your letter by Saturday.

However, even if you don’t have your letter by Saturday don’t freak out! You never know what could happen and we are all just speculating at this point!

Good luck to all of you (I know I need some luck haha) and I wish you all the best! We are all smart people and things will work out!

I am the proud parent of two current USC students and i remember how unbearable the wait was! I am wishing all of you and the transfer applicants so much luck!

mpball, the “backdoor” link worked for my son the evening of the day the letter was mailed. If I’m not mistaken, it was past 6pm PST, possibly as late as 9pm.

Good luck to everyone!!

ETA: Okay, I’m such a geek. I just found my excited post after the link worked. I posted just after 11 PM. Of course it could’ve been working sooner than we knew.

Oh gosh, jazz/shreddermom. That would be tonight.

Matrix,

Wouldn’t that be tomorrow?

Sorry. Thought I read that she said the evening “before” the decisions were mailed. Over-anxious, obviously.

No worries. Totally understandable. I recently heard from an inside source that 185 people from my school applied to USC and 105 got in. CRAZY odds! Good luck to you. [:

Eep I am an international so Saturday is the earliest I am expecting anything. So the gray area between receiving an acceptance and a rejection is much larger for internationals. Does anyone know how they send out rejections/waitlists for internationals? Is it still through DHL?

^^ I thought my school had good odds for USC but that’s amazing!

Yeah, we’re one of its top feeder schools, so I suppose those odds are expected. [:

Freckles,
Are you absolutely sure of those numbers? I know about your high school as I moved to GA from Villa Park in Orange County.

The traditional feeder schools to SC have been La Canada, University High, Arcadia High, Palos Verdes, Palos Verdes Peninsula, Monte Vista and Torrey Pines. Private schools have been Harvard-Westlake, Harker School, Iolani, Punahou and Mater Dei. Yours has had representatives, but the number you mention appears quite high.

How do you know who has been admitted when the packets have not been sent out by the admisssions office as of this date?
