When is it time to accept the other school's offer?

UCF is taking soooooo very long with my application. I have offers of admission from all the other schools I applied to. UCF is really my first choice but I'm afraid that if they don't accept me -- well, the clock is ticking and I could lose scholarship money or my place in line for a decent dorm room at the other school.

But if I go ahead and pay the admission and housing deposit at the other school -- will UCF know somehow and toss out my application? It's another Florida state school. Will I be bound to the other school or just lose my $500. Don't get me wrong, $500 is a lot of money but I would give it up to get the school I want.

When is it time to just go somehwere else?

Hi-
Your dilemma essentially comes down to money.
In all sincerity, if UCF has taken this long to offer you an acceptance, then you probably have less indicators of success as compared to the other applicants that have already been offered an acceptance. That being said, if you are eventually offered an acceptance after a long wait, then realistically you are not going to be offered a scholarship as those usually obtaining scholarships are immediately accepted.
Also during Christmas break, UCF will not be processing applications, so you may not receive a decision for yet another several weeks.
The only benefit for turning in your deposit to USF now would be for an earlier dorm choice and for an earlier orientation date. If I were you, contact housing and she how far along they are with housing deposits and if your choices are still available. If your dorm choice has minimal spots available, then you may want to pay the deposit at USF in order to obtain the housing you most wish to obtain. Also, I don’t believe that one school tells another school when an acceptance is offered.

I suppose you’re right, it does come down to money. But it’s a lot of money.

It’s just discouraging because I see people on here with scores and stats equivalent to mine and some even lower getting accepted. I fall right in the correct range of scores on Cappex. And I got accepted by uni’s that rejected some of the people who got accepted to UCF. It doesn’t appear that anything is missing from my application, although all they would tell me when I called and e-mailed was “look at the website.” They wouldn’t confirm one way or the other. They don’t seem very responsive. It’s been kind of a bad experience already.
