When room-mates just don't get along...

Also, relax a bit. You are in college. No one in our apartment has vaccumed yet. We swept the floor because someone broke a glass and we needed to clean it up. No part of the bathroom has been scrubbed in any way. While it isn't anywhere near as clean as I'm used to, I've learned how to deal with it. You have two other apartment mates. If one isn't pulling the slack, the rest of you need to try and deal with it yourselves. It seems that she isn't going to budge. While I do agree with the above suggestions for getting help, I also think that your feeling about what is "clean" may be different. If nothing is growing or stinking up the entire room, that is relatively clean by college standards. Unless you have significant allergies that make dusting a must, you may need to deal with a bit of dust around the room.

I know that this situation stinks, but picking up her slack can at least make it more comfortable for your way of life.

Where in TN if you don't mind?

Commuting FTW! If that's a valid option for you, of course. It's a whole lot less stressful, and you don't have to have someone always in your stuff and in your face. I had the choice to commute to a state college for about 5K, or live on campus in another state for 10K (per year), and I chose to commute, and for a moment, there was a pang of regret. But when I saw what the dorms were like and realized what a hassle it'd be to have to get along with some stranger all the time, I think I made the right choice. I prefer the enhanced relationships I have with my family members that I'm able to maintain because I commute (as an added bonus, we're saving thousands of dollars per year).

I read a newspaper article about how living in dorms is fun...for like the first couple of weeks, then reality sets in, tensions rise, harsh words are spread, etc etc...

(FTW = for the win)
