When should I take the SAT?

Hey,
I'm a junior and I haven't started studying for the SAT yet. So far, most of my friends have taken it already. Although I'd hate to succumb to peer pressure, I feel somewhat obligated to take it before the summer. With that being said, I have my eyes set on the March testing. However, as I mentioned earlier, I haven't studied one bit!

I think I want to use this as an indicator so I can improve and score higher on a future exam (most likely June).

Here are my questions:

1) Do colleges look down on you for taking your SAT late?
2) Will they disapprove of very low scores on the first exam? Despite the fact that scores on the second exam exceed expectations?

I've taken the PSAT and I wasn't too happy with my scores.
For colleges, I plan on applying to: UGA, Emory, UVA, Duke.

Thanks all :))

not that I know of

most colleges superscore the sat. that means they take the highest combination of scores possible from each test you took.
