...Do you get to choose which SAT IIs they base their decision on?

I know they "see" all of them, but if a certain school only required 2 exams and you had 3, could you just tell them to look at the highest two?

I know the UC's will take your two highest scores. I'd imagine most schools would do it the same way.

hmm thnx. anyone else?

If you use the Common Application, there is a space to report your test scores. Just enter the ones you want considered.

Since you have to send your score report, if you send the score report after you take all the tests, they will see every test score, and will make a decision based on that. Certain schools may have certain rules regarding which tests they look at, but all schools have access to all scores if you send them after you take the test.

Do the colleges see the results of AP exams ( when evaluating candidates ) or do they see the scores only later after a person is accepted / enrolled for purposes of giving credit ? Thanks. Best of luck. Marc

The APs are a separate operation. According to the College Board website, the schools only receive the results if you request that your cumulative score report be sent, and even then you can choose to withhold one or more scores if you want, and have the rest sent. You can even cancel a score completely if you want after you've seen it.

so should i email the schools im interested in individually?

i don't know, if i were the adcom, id have every right to see everything on the SAT report that comes to me. if an applicant were to come begging me to cover my eyes for the scores he doesn't like, im gonna think he's some sort of loser... no offence man. whether or not you ask the adcoms to not consider it, they'd still have seen it and that changes their perception of you, even if unofficially.

Oh great, I guess that means they'll see my 18th percentile on the Chinese SAT II >_<

does this mean that they will see all of my SATII scores even if I don't report some of them?

georgeyang89, yes, it means that they will see all of the SAT II (and I) tests that you took before you sent the report. They will not see any scores of tests you took after you sent the report.

So for example, let's say you took the SAT I in January. You send the scores to College A, which doesn't require SAT IIs.

You then take 2 SAT IIs in May. You send the scores to College B. College B sees the SAT I and SAT II scores. College A does not see the SAT II scores unless you resend them.

Now you take 2 SAT IIs in June. You send the scores to College C. College C sees the scores of the SAT I you took in January, the SAT IIs you took in May and the SAT IIs you took in June. However, neither College A nor College B see the scores of the tests you took in June unless you re-send your scores.

Does this make sense to you?

How can they "not consider it" if they can see it? I got a 470 for world history -__-. Other than that, I think I'll be alright.

But at the point applying to colleges, say, in Nov, you "have" to send in the latest report right? you can't choose to only send in "scores from June and before"?

Besides, if I do much better on ACT, because some colleges require ACT+SAT II, they'll still see my sucky SAT I score right?

Yes, kenny, you have to send in the latest report when you send them. But - you can send the scores, say, in May, before you take the June or October tests. Then, unless you want to do so, you don't have to update the schools that you sent the May tests to. They'll hold onto the reports until you send in your application; happens all the time.

And yes, if a school requires both the ACT & SAT II's, that school will also see your SAT I. But remember, if the school doesn't require the SAT II's or will accept the ACT in lieu of both SAT I and II, you don't need to send the SATs at all.

is it good to send in SAT report for the SAT II's sake anyway since I did really well on SAT IIs but sucked at SAT?

According to the college counsling at my D's school. Don't attempt a SATII if you think you are going to do bad on it?
You cannot ask colleges to just ignore the loww SATII score on a subject.

You can mention which 2 or 3 to consider but when it comes to 2 individual with similar stats and you have a low SATII and other don't. you ar going to loose.

I mean, I did well on SAT II but not SAT.
In that case, should I still send SAT report anyway?

(eg. Stanford requires SAT or ACT, recommends SAT II)

I have a suggestion for ParentOfIvyHope. If your D would like to attempt an SAT II that she isn't sure she'll do well on, send her SAT scores to her colleges early in the process and then take the risky test. If she does well you can send them all over again. If not, no one will ever see the last score. My D used this system to retake the Spanish SAT II that she thought she could improve. Fortunately she did significantly better and we sent the higher score after we received the results of the December test.

Thanks Puzzled88 but we have decided to go against taking it as my Daughter is Sohopmore, and she will be taking other SATIIs next year as Junior so it may not be possible to not send score after taking it in November this year.
